One of my friends just posted this to my FB page. I can't stop giggling. I'm pretty sure I would get flogged for even attempting to wrestle any of my birds into one of these, LOL!

Might be an option to take them to a park or something and be sure they would be tethered and could be taken back home again. Not that Id likely ever do that but.. Also could be a way to confine them away from certain plants while still having free range of the rest of the back yard. Would definitely need supervision though as with any tethering operation.

Dont know for the chicken its probably no worse than a hen saddle until they try to exceed the limit of the leash.

Well my first venture into hatching eggs (courtesy of Neal) is very interesting. I set 48 in his new incubator and candled yesterday and removed 12 eggs. 4 clears and a number of blood rings some very early quitters some a bit later. So far the Dark RIR eggs have been the hardest to candle. However the remaining eggs are developing well. Ill candle again on Sunday. Day 14. It was a very interesting experience anything in particular I should watch for or should I candle again before day 18 and lockdown?

I notices some had uneven veining would you expect these to eventually quit or have hatch problems?

Chicken + park = dog snack IMO. And you couldn't blame the dogs, as they don't know any better. We had a crazy lady try to walk her pot bellied pig in the OFF LEASH dog area at my local park. We had to have a ranger come tell her that she couldn't do that (she got mad when the dogs attacked her pig, and even madder when people pointed out she was legally liable for any vet bills that ensued as her pig was an attractive nuisance that didn't belong in the dog park).

By day 18, it gets harder to see a lot inside the eggs--especially the dark one. Look for air cell size and veins. You can often see some movement but do not give up if you do not see movement.

If they made it past day 7, then un even veining will not kill them.

I was thinking more of my front yard which isnt fenced but I would never take them to a place where there were other potential predators.

Im trying to determine a feed program for my 8 week old birds

They are coming off Purina Medicated Starter (18% protein)

And Im trying to decide about feeding the Boys and Girls differently

Im considering going with (22% Protein)

for the boys as it has a higher protein and cannot see a difference between KING Starter and Broiler crumbles (in fact they are labled the same)
Other brands for meat bird suggestions are welcome.

for the girls (20% protein)

The hope is that the boys might flesh out better as a number will ultimately make freezer camp.

I could consider giving supplemental protein to the boys and Use the King starter as it is GMO, Soy and Corn free does anyone have a protein(or other) additive suggestion.

They are going to be getting wet mash till 12-14 weeks anyway when they will be moved to a pen with open forage.

May I suggest the Duracell one from Costco. It is $19 and some change and very high output. My husband sells Streamlight at his work and says that these are just as good and brighter than the Streamlights except one model that costs in the $100's.
