There's an interesting cross. Maybe the babies will look kind of like the ocellated turkeys in the Yucatan.

Oh wow.. pretty.

Ee Hen hashel bibbles in her eyes. is it coryza? I dont have the money right now to get tylan what dk i do?! Am i honna lose my whole flock? Hpw do they get this?
If they don't stink it is probably not Coryza but you won't know unless you send her to Davis. If she were mine I would cull her.

I am battling a disease with similar symptoms right now. I am very sorry that you are going through this!

First step is to isolate the sick girl asap and don't let anything that touches her or where she is in contact with the rest of your flock

Next. Use a bleach solution to totally sterilize the coop where she was living. Remove all bedding scrape up old dried dropping and scrub every single surface.

Don't allow free ranging or mixing of birds from the pen she was in with any other birds. Keep all pens separate

Don't walk in her old pen in the same shoes you wear into the other birds' pens

If you get other sick birds repeat the process.

I didn't have enough places to isolate more than 2 and didn't want to house sick girls with potentially sick girls. I have had to cull 5 hens. I have another sick girl but her symptoms are different so I have her isolated in another area and she is still alive and though not eating she is drinking.

I sent my first sick girl to Davis and am awaiting their response I don't know how long it takes for them to do the examination, write up the report and send it to me but I am waiting for them to tell me what it is to figure out what my next steps will be.

The Dorking that has different symptoms will be sent as well when/if she passes

On the positive side no signs of illness 3 mornings in a row. I am nervous whenever I get home and have a look at everyone's eyes but no new sick birds since Tuesday pm

It has been awful and I am so sorry you are facing a similar situation.

nikki the way I understand it you have 3 choices:

a) Cull your whole flock
b) isolate the sick bird(s) and cull them as they manifest illness... This is what I have done
c) give antibiotics and hope you can save the sick ones but if it is one of the many viral infections the antibiotics won't cure the initial infection b/c antibiotics don't work on viruses....if your girl lives she will likely be a carrier of the disease forever and the only responsible thing for you to do is close your flock, NEVER bringing in new birds to be exposed and never selling or giving away birds and potentially, hatching eggs for fear of spreading what your flock has to another flock.

Regardless of your choice send at least one girl to UCD for necropsy so you can be certain what it is and what you can do to stop it and prevent it from happening again.

It seems the squirrels enjoy our chicken scratch. I throw rocks at them. I want my hubby to use a BB gun. Don't they carry fleas?
The Woodland paper had an article about rodent control today.

Call the UCD lab that's closest to you and ask if they have anyone that can come draw some blood or do a nasal swab.

The lab closest to me is Turlock, and they have a Dr. that comes through the area about once a month that does testing at the various feed stores and poultry farms. I think all four labs have a Dr that does this.
