Broody #3 hatched three chicks today (including the "slosher"). Tomorrow I will try to move them since the loft coop isn't really workable for chicks. Hopefully the integration with the three week old chicks won't be a disaster.

Hopefully Mama will protect them.

Congratulations!

One of my French Blank Copper Marans is working overtime... 91 grams, big as one of my turkey eggs, whew!
Laid July 9th.
Wow...that IS huge!

That is great!!!

Well my broody buff orp is now sitting on 7 eggs from Neals delaware pen. Every one says broodies scream at you but this little girl is so gentle I hardly hear a peep (except when Ive moved her a couple of times) and is not aggressive at all. In fact seems to enjoy the visit to pet her and feed her treats. I need a super sweet buff orp roo just so we can make more like her. The other day she was down from the nest while a delaware was sitting it laying an egg. And my daughter (her favorite person) was out feeding and attending to the chickens and she was hovering around under foot looking between my daughter and the chair. My daughter finally sat down and she immediately made a hop into the lap. All of my girls are friendly but this one takes the cake.

Most of mine don't scream. They just cluck quietly and puff up. I have only ever had one that was aggressive when broody. I think individuals have their own personalities though. Ask people what breed is the gentlest and you will get many different responses. When I first stated with chickens I wanted something as quest as possible since I was trying to keep it on the down-low. I was told buff Orpingtons were quiet. So I got a few. One was quiet, but the others were very noisy. They talked all day long. I didn't keep them for very long....

Awww...how cute!

Well, it's not all sunshine and rainbows in chickenland. Noticed a bald patch on my splash girl a couple days ago. So I made her a chicken saddle. Went to put it on her and discovered one whole side is flayed and gross. Sprayed her with Vetericyn and started calling vets. 10 vets latter, I was SOL. Even though most do see chickens, every last one had no Avian specialist working today. Finally, out of sheer desperation, I called @TheKeeper. I figured she could at least advise me. And she did! She's the absolute best!!!!

Still worried about my favorite chicken, but not panicked anymore.

Neal stitched up one of his RIR that had been opened up by one (or both of the boys) she is in fantastic shape now. I think he might be a bit of a stretch to help in an emergency but send him a PM @1zooman12
