Just curious, what is the wire for?

They said to put it on the bottom of the 1st drawer....

I am a lurker here. Since no one has answered you about the screen I will come out of "lurkyhood". Lol
The screen is window screen. The idea is the eggs will fall through to the drawer below.
Meal worm farming can be as simple or as complicated as you would like depending on the amount of time you have to spend.
For the easiest method look up cello de gallo's posts on the meal worm thread. Lots of good common sense and tried and true advice. I've been using his method with success in a 10 gal aquarium for a couple of years now and I couldn't be happier.

Hi Lynn, I've read that people put wire under the first drawer so something can fall through. I forget what they called it... (old age)
But they never say what size of wire... thanks for answering my questions about those bugs getting out..... I bought the 3 drawer Steralite and I put them in with oatmeal and some baby Carrots, they have almost eaten 2 of the baby Carrots... they really attacked them.... I placed an order from Rainbow Mealworms.... Can't wait to get my order....

Mine love carrots too. Better than bread or potatoes. Maybe the wire is to sift the different sizes. I don't really know as we just started this project the past Spring. All I can say for sure is they are the easiest creatures on the earth to raise:) Good luck with yours.

It's Granny368W that wants info on the size of screen so hopefully she'll see your post here. I was just about to suggest she go to the mealworm thread too:)

Hi all,

In case anyone remembers my sick hen, Flora, just updating you all. I'm happy to say she has made a complete recovery! The vet said she wasn't going to make it but she is doing great. I think what happened was that she ate something poisonous but she managed to pull through.

She is molting right now but she looks great & her new feathers are gorgeous. She only has 1 tail feather right now, lol.

Here she is with her photobombing buddy:
