We have had a year full of experimenting with our poultry and have decided to buy/ build a chicken plucker. Eyeballing the one all set to go from strombergs.

I would love to hear any input or experience from you all before we scrounge up600.00

Welcome back!
My husband built or plucker from parts he had in his shop. We spent less than $100 on it, and it works great! He watched several videos online, and used a book for reference also.
If you are mechanically inclined, you may want to go the DIY route. If not, hopefully someone here or in one of the other threads can offer some advice. Best of luck!

I couldn't find the paper that came with the bottle, I thought I had pinned it to our cork board but I guess not. Will this do?

We just culled an entire hatch of mixed breeds that looked exactly like this. We had them separated from the flock already, since we didn't have a broody to raise them. Tried treatment for pox, but they got worse and we couldn't compromise the rest of the flock.
None of our other birds have had any symptoms.
I hope you get some answers, and an effective treatment.

I am super disappointed to say that the spinosad caused some nasty side affects for the birds I treated. Very similar to fowl pox (the dry kind), but I'm pretty it isn't. I've dealt with flow pox recently, and the symptoms were not as bad as what the poor chicks are dealing with right now. I sprayed specific birds, ones with more of an infestation than the others, and only those are exhibiting the symptoms. At first I thought it was fowl pox, so I gave them some things to boost their immune system, and waited for it to run its course, but it has been about a week and a half now, with no improvement and the the other birds haven't caught it. I could be wrong, and it could be fowl pox, but I'm fairly certain it isn't.

I'll get some photos of the ones with the issue soon.
What is the name of the spinosad product you used, and did you dilute it?

I don't think there is enough spinosad in this product to do any harm. The stuff labeled for use in poultry when mixed is ~0.1% spinosad, and your stuff is much weaker at 0.001%. However, the other 99.999% ingredients aren't listed, so you might want to call the mfg and ask what they are.

Quote: Oh no. Do have have any ideas as to what caused it in your birds?
I think I will go make a post on the disease and injury thread, and I hope the outcome wont be to put them down.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll do that.
And you might also want to consider that using too little of something, that this might lead to mites developing a resistance to spinosad.

Anyone interested in splitting the cost of bantam chicks? I found them on Ideal Poultry, and they're only $1.10 each w/o shipping and handling. Located in Hollister, California, and willing to drive an 1hr away to deliver chicks to splitter.
