California - Northern

What a day. We had to put my dog to sleep. He would have been 9 on my birthday. Lymphoma took him down. :( He was a sweet rottweiler. The house and routine is so off from that one pet alone- the whole family feels the 'offness'. They become our family you know?

We did get the EEs from Ron today though. That was cool! (and thanks for the eggs Ron!) Everyone is already in love with the EE. Everyone remarked how much they looked like birds not 'chickens' almost hawk like. They are sweet birds. Very skittish at first. We brought them inside for the night- no place to really put them for the quarantine part. Well they are in a huge kennel but the goslings are taking up the covered back porch right now and during the day that porch get well over 120 degrees inside- not a good place for birds during the day. (geese get walked outside into their yard during the day)

I think after 2 days in the kennel in the house- we will let them hang out with the geese during the day for the rest of the quarantine. The geese don't mind ducks or chickens.

A fun story though. Cheered me up! Tonight I let the EEs out of their kennel and run around the livingroom...fed them treats. They immediately stopped being skittish of me. Walking around me, near me...(I named them Luna and Solara) the one we call Luna (the all over brownish one) kept trying to jump on me. I was like what the...?? Then I realized she wanted to perch on my arm so I stuck it out. Hopped right on it. What??? Did you teach her that Ron? It was so cute! Then she hopped down, walked around a bit, I pet her some more and then she kept staring at my head. ???? Then I realized she now wanted to jump on my head??? We were all laughing because she would crouch real low and then finally she hopped up on my shoulder and stayed there. FUNniest thing ever! I will have my son text me the pic he got. It will be a crappy pic- bad lighting and no flash. Friendly little gals!

doesn't he think he's all that?

samson. no copper on him yet!

feeding time ;)

my daughter set herself up to watch some chicken tv. she cracks me up.

I am so sorry you had to put your dog down. That has got to be so tough and I'm sorry for your loss, Amy Beth. I'll keep your family in my thoughts.

What a precious picture of your daughter. Your kid must be having tons of fun with your chicken adventure!

I'm so sorry you lost your dog. We lost one of ours a couple of months ago and we still miss her. We still miss all the animals we've had over the years. You're so right, they are such a part of the family.

Impressive! Congratulations! What line of bantam buff Brahmas do you have? I am just starting with them and have 8 week old John Neff line chicks and week & 1/2 old Darlene Hobbs line chicks. I would love to see a picture of your BB bird to help me judge my birds. Actually, I'd like to see pictures of all your winning birds!!

Happy birthday Cooper.

Well, I'm back from the Fair and pleased with my birds. First, I knew they were all young, so wouldn't be super competitive yet.

Lakenvelder - BB
Golden Campine - BB & Reserve Champion Continental
BC Marans pullet - BB (my cockerel took 2nd in his class, the judge said he was young and 3 mos from now, that would have been reversed)
Bantam BR - BV
Bantam Buff Brahma - BB
NH - BB & Champion American

Good day all together.

BIS went to Walt with one of his bantam white leghorns.

I love my EEs and true Ameraucanas. Just wait until they give you some blue and green eggs! I love how they look mixed with the brown eggs in the carton, and they are the favorites of friends and family
