help!? i have two cream legbar hens that are heat stroked. Just found them on my check. brought them inside, gave a bath and stuck them in crates on wet towels. can't get either to drink when I dip their beaks in water. I am worried about them needing water but also don't want to get water into lungs by trying to force it. any ideas on what i should do???

Oh no!

Amy Beth used a medicine dropper and carefully gave her Orpington little bits of water.

Not a bantam... these birds call for 11 lbs in the breed standard. He is an 'O-Shamo'. I would LOVE to get himm some hens...

So somebody walk me through this picture-posting process and ill see what I can do. The Shamo is my display picture.

I save and clean vaccination syringes(from puppies not chickens) for things like this. It's good to have a couple around for things like draining off fluids or administering fluids.

Saline solution administered under the skin will help in this case.

Click reply or quote. Look for the edit bar at the top and click on the square that looks like a picture. Browse your computer for the picture and select it. Say yes to the question and then submit the picture.

I will check for the picture soon.

Walt from Sanoma has some of the O-Shamo' chickens. He may be able to get you some hens.

Many thanks!!! My Shamo came from sme rather poor quality hatching eggs I picked up. There were bugs crawling all OVER them so I had to fumigate before the incubator drop ceremony. Out of 7 eggs ONE hatched...bummer!!

So now forthe picture part.... ehrrrrrm?? Image URL....so they do need to be uploaded somewhere else first. This helps!

Catching up here:
Amy...... Congrats on the puppy!
Both SPPR's and the Delaware are pullets.

that definitely seems to be the consensus -- so glad! i just had one of those moments of realizing, hey, i don't really KNOW what to look for re: gender changes, and will need to be on the lookout with the new straight-run chicks that will arriving soon. greatly appreciate all the pointers!

off the let the girls (girls!!!) out of their run for an afternoon/evening stroll...
