I'm sorry Ron. :(

Thank You,

It was sad. The rest are doing fine today and I did get Yin to the lab this morning. I should have a preliminary report soon.

She had a good life though. Golden comets are sex links and are described as being prone to health problems after the first year. Her sister Yang is fine--she was giving herself a dust bath.

The Basque Hens just get water and shade. It is funny how much better they do in the heat.

Oh, I am consoling my self with a dozen fertile eggs from Trader Joe's. I will put them into the incubator tomorrow after they rest. Maybe I can join the Trader Joe's Hatch club. Will I get a certificate or a patch?

Bye,

My silkies (and a Welsummer) enjoying some Omega-3 seed mix sprouts. They loved it. Just a word of advice...keep the chicken wire or hardware cloth on top because they like to jump inside and scratch the little plants out.

I need to invest in a bunch of containers because they won't last long.

I'm SO excited that one of my 6 m.o. silkies started laying this week!

She has layed 3 eggs and I watched "her" lay yesterday's egg. Then I fumbled with my camera (to turn it back on because the battery went dead)....After I snapped this photo, the silkie turned around and it was the one that CROWED last week.

WHAT IN THE WORLD? I'm wondering if they could have switched places while I fumbled with my camera OR if the cockerel is really a pullet? I am so flabergasted that my son helped me put food coloring in their vents today. I KNOW for certain it was BB (Bullet) that crowed because she did it 3X one morning and once more when I brought her into a cage in the house by her/himself. We shall see (if the eggs have blue or green streaks on them, that is.) We squirted blue inside BB/Bullet and green inside Mysty Blue.

Zooweemomma....Congratulations on Alice. She has such a sweet face! I hope she is a great dog for your family and chickens.

108 here right now. YUCK.

Lots of cold water and wet dirt for the chickens. The turkeys LOVE to be squirted with the hose - they just stand there.
YUCK! Only 101 here in Antioch and that's way hotter than is comfortable. We fortunately have lots of bushes so I've been spraying underneath them to give the chickens someplace cool to hang out. Our outside faucet leaks when I use the hose and they tend to congregate around it. We have misters but they don't like them.
