I'm on the Incubators Anonymous thread so they could talk me down (although I think they are all really just enablers).

I have two incubators full of eggs due on Oct 1st and 5th. My third incubator, 17 bobwhite chicks popped out today (so far).

When these three hatches are done, I'm turning everything off until Nov 11th when I get back from vacation

Other than for cleaning, this is the first everything will have been shut off since last December!!!

(Although I already have eggs ordered to arrive right after I get back).

I decided I already have so much for the petsitter to take care of, it was too much to ask for them to monitor humidity. And since I'm flying to Mexico, I can't really take the incubators along with me this time.

Amen sister!

I say the same thing. I even went 2 weeks with them packed up in their boxes.

ebay had Jumbo Cots, 100 for 10.99 today. They warned us that breeding season is almost over so hurry up and order...

resistance is futile....

Ok I did not bid on them so I am ok?

OMG Deb, you sound like me. I have two GQF sportsman incubators and the matching Hatchery. They have been running none stop. What the heck? Who does that? Glad to here not just me...

Just say No

That is alot of Chicks

i'm now feeling really wimpy for being overwhelmed by having 15 chickens of various ages pecking around -- but i think someone is coming to take the three orps this weekend, so i'll be down to a dozen, all girls i'm pretty sure: 2 SPPRs, 2 marans, 2 light sussex, 2 cream legbars, 2 basques, one australorp, and one splash isbar -- age range from 15-3 weeks. what a gang!

Congratulations on re homing the Orps!

It is always nice to share chickens with someone. The feed bill goes down along with the work load.

Ron

well, they're supposed to get picked up on sunday -- will see if it actually happens. the 5-week-olds have been out in the enclosure-within-the-coop for a week now, and are looking very impatient to be let out amongst the big girls (they may feel differently once the chasing and pecking begins), but i was thinking of holding off til the orps go -- not sure it matters.

the basques & older CL are really starting to look like real chickens instead of chicks! and no sign of inordinately large combs on either basque, so i'm feeling more confident that they are indeed both pullets, hooray!

3 new babies this morning! 2 black sex links (BR hen covered by my wellie roo) hatched, 1 cockerel and 1 pullet, and a welsummer hatched late yesterday. 2 more wellies working their way out. My 2 broodies are very happy.

New babies all over here too. The final count on the bobwhite quail chicks was 19 hatched yesterday (to add to the 14 last week and 2 the week before). I'm now at 35 bobwhite chicks, plus my dozen+ adults.

I also just got back from the post office with the box of replacement chicks from a couple of weeks ago. If you remember, I picked up a box of cold, dead chicks, only one of the 22 made it. That one is doing well, although I still have to bathe it's rear end from pasty butt at least once per day.

Anyway, this morning I had quite the opposite arrive. There were 2 dead chicks in the box with 20 live. One seems a bit fragile, but they are all drinking electrolyte water and pecking at gamebird starter. So hopefully this batch will be fine now.
