YAY Happy monday!

Construction starts today on our house Estimated to last 2 weeks. They will be doing a wide variety of things around the house, but today is dry wall repair. I can't wait! Although I don't really care to have strange men in my house while I'm studying, its worth it

I am hoping we get snow this year. This area got about 2-3 feet last year or the year before. We found a google photo of our property when it was snowing and it was so pretty!

On a side note, my chicks are so annoying. I have 7 of them in the dog room right now and I wish our barn electricity wasn't so sketchy because then I could put them in the barn with their heat lamp.

Anyway...I climbed into our big oak tree yesterday and a big barn owl flew out! He is so pretty

Looks like a nice Sunday for everyone. We changed the shavings (we use deep litter method), raked up feathers, hung feeders/waterers and thankfully my husband took over the building of the ladder roosts I wanted to build (nice to know that after 33 years, all I have to do is start the project and he'll take it from me for fear I'll cut a finger off

).

Sold 5 Polish, 4 young ones and 1 Adult Roo and on EE Roo today. Lots of running around catching all the chicks to let them choose and then one of my favorite WCB Polish roos went. Everyone was pretty traumatized after all the chasing but have settle in, some on the new roost. I picked up one of my Splash Polish to put her on the new roost and she felt like she weighed a ton! She's been molting along with everyone else and no ones laying so when she had a bit of poo on her last week and seemed quiet I just wrote it off as molt....but on examination I see she's got something going on. She full of something.......anyone have any experience with this? I noticed when I was cleaning the coop out that there was a runny poo. So, the only real symptoms are that she's really heavy compared to my other hens of the same age, lethargic, molting and loose stool. What should I do? Off to search but if anyone has any ideas, I'd appreciate it. She's one of my favorites and makes beautiful girls for me.

How does her abdomen look? (from behind) Can you see skin between the feather shafts? I had a hen get extremely bloated and heavy - she had ascitis.

thanks! GoogleMaps says it's 198 miles from there to here -- so, quite a haul. if you decide you don't want the splash isbar boy, i'll probably be able to sell him to my local feed store (Western Farm in Santa Rosa), unless someone here wants him!

So now after the dry, and left us with powdery dust in every run...RAIN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GOBS NON STOP OF RAIN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So the end result is clay slippery snot mud...underneath is the gravel we put in years ago....
So...not complaining EVER AGAIN ABOUT TOO MUCH RAIN !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here is what ascitis looks like. See how swollen her abdomen is and how far down it hangs. If you looked closely from behind, you could see skin between the feather shafts. Also, she started collecting a lot of poop on her rear from the swelling. She was a black copper marans.

Yikes! Another chicken issue for me to be aware of. Today I have to drain the breast blister on my bcm mixed pullet. Not looking forward to that- the thing is huge. :|

This makes me feel even better about sticking pretty much to produce scraps for treats and the occasional leftover meat.

I seriously would love some NN! Since I am doing all the work (well most hubby totally helps out building things and being my spotter for jobs that require 2 hands)...then I should get to choose right? I did read that they are really decent layers. I love different and weird and the NN were my first choice way back before settling on BCM. Maybe some hatching eggs this Spring for some broodies and see what I get. I def want some leghorns of some type though too. I am thinking of having 2 coops eventually - one for my hatchery layers and 1 for my high quality stock. Other people do that right? (plus a grow out pen for the extra cockerels)

You guys should be getting some rain from this sytem bearing down on us right now....supposed to hit from BC down to NorCal...from 3/4" to 3" in coastal areas & up to 65 mph wind....should hit us here on the SW WA coast 22-4 PM they said...and there can be lightening....holy moley !
