I use the injectable because it is very easy. It works very well. Knocked out mites in two days.

Anyone want a splash silkie rooster? His name is Mr. Puff! I would be willing to give him to anyone on this thread if you want to pick him up. At least that way, he'd have a good home. I've been planning to post him on Craigslist for $15 but thought I'd offer him here first (free).

I bought the BBS eggs from Sheri Minkner in Lincoln. He hatched in my incubator on April 6, so he is almost 7 months old. He has correct toes, wings, etc. The only fault is his single comb, poor guy -Otherwise, he would be perfect for showing. I've been told by several silkie breeders that the single comb is recessive so he is at least breeder quality. Oh, and he loves the ladies. I planned to do some test hatches with him, but Mysty Blue won't let the boys mate her. Plus, Mysty Blue is very tiny and I'm afraid Mr. Puff could hurt her.

I am eye balling a 24 egg R Com incubator.. Anyone ever use that brand? Do you like it? I am sure there is a thread somewhere but this is easier.

I know some people swear by them. I borrowered one from a friend to hatch dark eggs and it worked great. The temp and hum. are digital so you can set temp precisely where you want it. I also love the fact that you do not need to open the bator to add water. The water well is on the outside.

The only thing I did not like was the fact that there is no insulation so when you open the top to take out egg to candle the temp drops tremendously, also we hard a power outage for a couple of hours and the temp in he Rcom dropped to 58 and the Hova bator was still at 85 when we discovered power was out.

My Easter Eggers are both scaredy chickens and hide from their own shadows. Interesting how different each personality is, huh? I'm pretty sure it wasn't a fox that got my chick - LOL. It is just strange that it disappeared without even a feather.

Our yard is completely fenced in and there are many obstacles (bushes, trees, etc) in the area where Buffy stays..........so it will forever be a mystery I guess.

My son and I pray that all the chickens will be safe and healthy every night.

I bought some EE from Meyers Hatchery 3 years ago and they were super friendly nice birds and great layers. I thought it was odd that I kept reading that EE were often flighty and nervous. Then, last year I bought a batch of EEs from Townline. I think there were some of the prettiest EEs I had ever seen and came in a wide assortment of colors, but boy are they crazy!!!! and several of them lay brown eggs : ( I am now have True Ameraucanas and Cream Legbars so I doubt I will be buying more EEs but if I do, I will get them from Meyers Hatchery.

I had a chicken die of unknown causes last year so I sent her to UC Davis and it turned out she had cancer. The necropsy report showed that she was negative for worms. I thought that was pretty interesting because I have never wormed the flock she was in. The fact that this 3 year old hen did not have worms made me really wonder how prevalent they are. I've used Ivermetin in a couple of my other pens when I discovered mites, but so far worms do not seem to be an issue.

Don't put valbazen in the waterer. Dose each bird individually. I like to do it at night with a headlamp for light - it's easier and the birds don't fuss as much.

The topical must be on skin for it to work. Not feathers.

I thought that our EE was flighty until I got pure Ameraucanas! My blue wheaten is a ditsy blond. My silver, Amelia, is tiny, quick, and flies up & away. Guess how she earned her name?! This year I added 2 lavender pullets to my flock. They are also tiny and can fly half way across my 1/3 acre yard! They seem to be not quite as ditsy as my BW and Silver but time will tell.

My 2 EE are a bit flighty but very friendly at the same time. Mostly I think it's because they were the youngest in the flock and lowest on the pecking order so were often running away from the older, mean girls. We have to walk up to them slowly and then reach down to pet them or pick them up. If we move too fast, they take off.

I even trust the EE with my silkies. The silkies don't know the difference when they see the EE's dark grey feet. The silkies peck at the Welsummer's yellow feet, though.

I guess they can't see too good with their big crests. BTW-My older girls are too fat to fly into the silkies 4 foot enclosure!

Here's a rare picture yesterday of all the girls free-ranging together. They get along better as they become the same size it seems. Buffy stays over by the coop with her babies so she isn't included in this picture. The EE's are the black (far right) and white (2nd from left) chickens. My EE's are 31 weeks old and only Angel (white one) is laying a blue egg so far.

Well, used to lay eggs..............My silkie lays more consistantly than any of my chickens lately. I couldn't even make banana bread today because I didn't have a single large egg! I thought the molting was over, but it seems to have started up again.

Glad everyone is having a good chicken day!

I just got a new flock of Basques yesterday from Papabrooder! I've been seriously preoccupied with them enjoying their beauty. It's a mixed flock of all ages andexes so I should have a pretty good start on picking good breeders. D I still have a brooder full of them!

My pastures are FINALLY greening up!! It makes being outside a lot more enjoyable when there is not a blan view of brown dry grass.

Taking a break from building Pens. I'm wondering how many ill end up with.
So far my breeds that will be in breeding pens are...

Euskal Oiloa Basques
Blue orpington
Lavender orpington
Gold Laced Brahma
Silver laced Brahma
Buff Brahma

I'm thinking 15 breeds and 20 pens.
