California - Northern

Just don't build it any shorter than about 4 feet. Otherwise when you get the stubborn one that wants to lay her egg under there, it's a pain to go get it. And you also have to think about cleaning it out. It's a tight sqeeze to get the shovel in there to clean it out. I usually use a dust pan to pull it out in the main area, then shovel it up.

Did you find out what set them off?
I used to bring my two boys in at 6:30 every morning (I'm not zoned AG).....until we had the full moon last week............My silkie, Leo Pierre, started crowing at 4:20 am.

He must have thought it was time to get up.

Have you found any more Weasels out there? If it was a predator the dog probably would have barked.

I thought maybe the time change had them confused.

Everyone's horses were running around full speed, which is unusual. The dog was out, but not barking at anything. It was strange.

No more signs of weasels. I did see a baby fox run right past the mobile coop into the neighbor's field one day. That day I was late going out to let them out. I have so many predators around here, yet they leave my chickens alone.

AmyBeth, I use a Vari kennel (airline dog crate) for a broody den.

Big Daddy's Mom - have a great time in Hawaii!

Jason - I've heard penedesenca's are pretty flighty. Do you find that to be the case?
the crele and the white empordanesa are like the icelandic. My partridge are very flighty. they stand confinment better than the icelandic's though. They are perfect for where you are.
Hands down the most alert breed for the sticks

I do like it too!

I should say though that I would likely never shoot a Fox. They are very beautiful and the ones in Guinda are probably Native CA and protected. I really am impressed that Kim protects her animals so well there in the country.

Bye!
