Ok, I see it now. I am usually on my phone when I'm lurking around and was using the mobile interface. The smiley face isn't on there when you reply. However, I've switched to desktop format and it's there! Thanks!!

Yay! What did you get and where did you get them?

13 - I'm so jealous! LOL

@SewCluck Do you bring them indoors for warmth? Chicks need a heat source for warmth that they can access or get away from if they are too hot. They are going to grow REALLY fast! Ameraucanas and/or Easter Eggers are timid birds so it's good you got more than one to pal around together.

Not tonight. Some are 1.5 weeks old and the oldest looks to be about 3 weeks old. We are brooding outside in the coop. In the brooder they have an MHP that they huddle under when they're cold.
Last night we brought the brooder into the house bc we wanted to make sure they were using the mhp. Now that we know they are they are sleeping in the coop, while in the brooder of course.
Edit to add:
It is hot here during the day.... have been in the 80's, but cool nights in the 50's.

That happened to us a couple years ago. We had 85 to 95 degree temperatures night and day and had to turn off the heat lamp. Post more pics as they grow out -- love pics!

Here is one of the buff orpington chicks my 3 yr old son has taken as his very own. He believes it will grow to be a rooster and has named him Dragon. Are you able to tell me if his dream will come true?

I lost a Welsummer a month or so ago. I want to replace her as well as add another hen to my backyard flock. So I want two new hens. Should I get chicks or pullets?

I'll either get two pullets to 20 week old hens from Dare2Dream or chicks from a somewhat local farm. I'm guessing it may take six or more months for chicks to be integrated while the older hens may go in after one to two months depending on age.

Ideas?

What's your set up like for quarantine? I had two 10 week old pullets in my laundry room for 30 days and it was so much dirtier than 6 baby chicks in a brooder for 5 weeks!

D2D has chicks as well. If you can quarantine in a space you don't mind getting dirty (like outdoors or the garage) then pullets are easier. If you only have your house....I found chicks easier.
