Call Ducks Finally Hatched

Anybody near Rushville, IN? There's a guy with about 20 call ducks for sale. Several blue pieds, magpies.....beautiful. It's hard to tell in some of the pictures but a few look to me to be at least breeder quality. Can't believe it, Rushville is my old stomping ground when I lived in IL. Lol, go figure. He's got good prices too, $50 a pair.

I would go for putting in the incubator. I had to do that with some quail, the hen was broody but the others would kill them as soon as they hatched, so the next couple batches I took out a day before hatch date. Worked great. Would think it should work with ducks too?

HUM, about that, why do they kill off the kids? I have had that done with my Cochins, they would hatch and next day I found them with the skin off there heads. Litterally you can see there brains, so sad and gross.. Like someone just sliced them and it's always at the head. I'm learning the head is an easy kill but I don't understand why mommies don't do a better protection job after sitting all that time and is it another hen that does it? because they are jealous or is it the roosters doing it because they don't want the competition?

More researching. LOL I have never seen a duck get killed but I have seen several baby chicks dead.

I had one mommy hatch out 10 babies, one survived because I had NO clue she was even sitting and the spot she pick you would have NEVER notice. The others were dead because of massive head injuries. They just got attacked right in the head, Don't know who did it and don't understand why.. But I wish that mommy would hatch out some paints for me. LOL

She PEEPED the whole time, Everytime I talked with the other chickens like my cochins 5 coops down, she's in there peeping. OMG,  I kept checking on her.  I felt like a mom that just drop her child off at school. LOL

Sassy started kindergarten classes last night.. HAHAHAHA
