Call Ducks Finally Hatched

oh good Thanks! The hatchery where I Bought my ducks from said to feed them that. Oh yea, you do need to drop mandarin chicks to get them to start eating. Weird but true.

I have heard that several times about dropping them, exactly why is that?? Does it have something to do with a mommy hatching them in a tree and they drop out of the tree or some thing?? Or does it have something to do with getting them unblocked. I would be scared to death to drop a baby omg.

The breeder told me that it was because they're normally hatched in trees and the need to simulate that. I would be terrified also and asked if I could just stand on my bed and drop them onto the bed and he said that would be fine. They could also be dropped into water. It's always seemed weird to me but I'm prepared to do it if that's what they need lol

THATS HOW YOU SIMULATE THEM. Omg I couldn't do it. I think I would grab one of my sons and have them do it. I would be to scared. How high of a drop are we talking? What about a nice cushioned floor lol.

Lol. That's why I said my bed. He said about 6' would be fine. I figured that wouldn't be that bad onto a bed :/

I watched the coolest documentary on YT about wood ducks. Also hatched in trees. Momma flies out to the water, then calls to the babies and they jump out of the tree and make their way to her. She just sits out there yelling to them until they find her. It was awesome!

In all the years you've been raising chickens and ducks you haven't had any die? If so, you're quite lucky and wish I could say the same, lol. If you send off all deceased birds to a lab for necropsy and they haven't found gout/calcium issues, only then can you say that the layer feed isn't causing any harm. make sense?

I dropped it 3 feet onto my bed with fluffy blankets. It wasnt scrarey at all.

They also have sharp little toe nails that get stuck on the lining in the brooder. I clipped a tiney piece from each nail, so now it didn't get stuck now. The webbing is very thin between the toes.

Yes. I can say I have never had an adult duck die on me only failed incubating times or my lovely fox that comes to visit or they just flew away. but never just suddenly is dead somewhere.

As far as chickens never said I didn't lose a chicken. I've lost chickens for many different reasons but not due to calcium. If anything mine lack calcium and that is why I have oyster shells. Number one reason is raccoons getting in there coops no matter how much I try to secure there coops they find a way in grrrr just had a possum in one of the coops that attacked my Silkie a while back. Thank god she recovered ok.

Until I actually see that the layer food is causing death. Then I can agree but until that happens, I stand by my results. I'm a visioniesf, I see , I do, I learn so far I'm not seeing the layer feed affecting or causing death. Can't test something that's not causing something.
