Call Ducks Finally Hatched

DROP THEM, WHAT DROP WHAT A CALL DUCK????  What the heck are you guys talking about??

Mandarin ducks. They are tree ducks so until they "drop" from the best they don't realize that it's time to start eating. Weird I know, but that's what all the breeders have told me. They're great moms though so you usually don't have to worry about it unless you're incubating the eggs yourself. If so, then they need to be dropped from 4-5 feet within the first 36 hours. I asked a couple breeders if I could stand on my bed and drop them so at least it was soft and was told that it should be fine. So if I ever incubate mandarin eggs that's what I'll do :)

Yeah I know what you mean. We went to the beach yesterday and I had Anconas hatching. Luckily they aren't as difficult so they did fine without me here. Hopefully you'll have little babies tonight!!!

No luck on the first baby. He quit on me while I was at work. Perfectly developed, not sticky, not shrink wrapped, tiny yolk the size of a dime, just quit. I think I'm going to go back to safe holing after 16-18 hours of internal pip. It was a little pied baby too. I'm so sick over it. I've safe holed the other one and hope he makes it.

:( I just don't get it! All the ones from you hatched on their own completely here...except one, but I only helped it by popping off the "cap" of the shell because we had company and I didn't want to risk it.....

My second batch from you is due this weekend. If I get pieds and they make it you can have them.

Well I didn't want to risk it, there's just WAY to many eggs, so I drove off to my formers house which is about 30 minutes away, she's gonna bring them to me tomorrow.

They should be ok now..

That is crazy with dropping a duck, OMG!!!!!

I don't get it either. I cant get humidity below 35% during incubation so left these in the incubator for hatch at that same humidity rate. Thought for sure that when the 1st didn't make it that I'd open him and he be stuck but that wasn't the case. I went ahead and moved the last 1 to the hatcher and safe holed him. We'll see if he can do any better.
