Call Ducks Finally Hatched

I kept the eggs at 99.9F the entire time. Humidity at 60 increased to 70 the last 5 days. Automatic turner. I sprayed the eggs each day with warm water.
The first duckling hatched one day early. The next pipped at day 24. After 24 hours,he still could not break enough of the egg to hatch. I pulled a little piece off at his beak to allow him room to continue the hatch. He hatched out in 6 hours. None of the other eggs pipped.
Egg shells very hard. Membrane like leather.
The 2 hatchlings doing well.

There's your problem, your humidity is way to high, you should not have it that high from day 1 threw 23, Oh man then you spray them too? Your lucky you got the two to be honest. first 60 is to high second, they shouldn't be on a turner unless they are laying down.

How would that explain why the membranes were so tough, though? Isn't that a sign of low humidity?

The book I have says 55% humidity. What do you suggest? And yes, I sprayed the eggs each day. Should I not spray them?

Well You can do it two ways, I have both methods posted on my site, www.lwbarnhouse.com under the Duck tab. My favorite is method two. Either one works. No! they need to be misted but when you do so remember that's going to raise your humidity, so if you at 60 and you mist them and again it all depends on how you mist them too. To much will cause them to stay wet to long, so when you mist them the humidity is going to go HIGHER then 60 probably hit about 70 maybe even 75. So you want to avoid it going that high otherwise they will get sticky. And it's best to have a Shrink wrapped egg then a sticky one. Because you can always wet a shrink wrapped and unshrink wrap it, there's not a WHOLE lot you can do with a sticky egg except HOPE he makes it in which they usually suffocate before escaping..
