Happy Note!
Happy 2018 my friends...We made it this far.....:wee:wee:wee:wee

Oh geez... I am not ready for 2018.

Anyways.. It's been a couple of days so might as well yap on about what has happened in the past two days.
So first thing first one of my friends has a small flock of chickens in his backyard .. 3 ISA Browns.. 2 Barred Rocks and one Leghorn. He called me asking to come check out the leghorn saying that she looked sick and that she wasn't laying. I came over to look at her and wow! Poor thing was going throw a hard Molt! Keep in mind it's -16C here. The poor thing's comb had frostbite all over it. I suggested putting a heat lamp in his coop but he didn't like the idea so I brought over one of my 2' x 4' wooden brooding box and put it in their heated garage.. Told him to keep her inside the coop until she's done molting. Even brought her over some meal worms to snack on and already she seemed to perk up a bit. Now lets talk about my birds.. Sweet pea my buff duck with the cut on her foot is almost all healed up, her limp is barely noticeable~ And one of my breeding Barred rock roos has just found his voice and is crowing non-stop now.. :th

Hmm.. Lets see.. other things to ramble about.. Well I can go on about my 'future' geese.
I'm definitely set on them and will be ordering them sometime in April. I've already got everything in order~ Their names will be Donald and Daffy and they'll have their own specially built coop and a nice little pond right next to their coop. I'm thinking of something simple to build like this but painted red and with some slidders for the door.

Rodents are a new realm for me. I haven't figured out what to do with them when they are sick. Vets won't see them, so like a lot of what we keep we are on our own. I tried some dog antibiotics on my Hammy, but now he won't take them anymore. I'm not sure if they were helping or not. I read many types of antibiotics are deadly too, so much I don't know yet.

We routinely kill rodents in our house and shed, not that we are overrun, so it is weird to be a hypocrite and keep rodents.

We have a vet that may see her here however, it would cost over $40 for an exam, but I just cannot justify it for a two year old mouse even though I feel awful! I hate to think she’s suffering but she seems to be a happy mouse. She’s pushing the average lifespan.

We also have had a rat problem, I didn’t want to kill them because we had the mice before the rats and I felt the same way, so I just tried to deter them, but I soon found out that wasn’t very logical and that the rats are indeed pests not pets.

I did let a rat go after scooping it from the pool- I didn’t want it to drown and I couldn’t kill it after seeing it be so traumatized...

Mice are cute, but pet (domestic) rats are the best 'pocket pets'! None of the little critters live a long time, though. Some veterinarians will see and treat them, but not everyone.

I’ve always wanted a rat as a pet, but they are just so smart I don’t have time for them right now. I’ll just have to stick with my silly ducks!!
