Calling All New Brinsea Owners!!! February Hatch-a-long... PRIZES!!!

I think Butters will be my submission pick. Butters is from the only shipped egg that made it and was the last to hatch.

I received my new Eco 20 this week, set it up and ran it a few days to get everything stabilized. I (hopefully) have shipped eggs coming in 3 weeks that I was planning on setting in it for my first hatch in the new bator.......but this wonderful new bator looks so empty and forlorn. I really wanted to try it out, so I went ahead and set a few of my own barnyard EE mutt eggs in it tonight!! Gotta 'test' it before my shipped eggs arrive - right?

Well its day 9 here and I candled my eggs. Of the 8 Lavender Ameraucanas it looks like 5 are viable. Of my 6 BLRW eggs 3 look viable. I dropped one of them but luckily when I cracked it open it was a early quitter (around day 3) Phew!

I didn't bother to check the Coturnix (day 12 for them) but they will be going into my Brinsea Mini that arrived yesterday and the chicken eggs will stay in my 20 Eco so I won't have to worry about the staggered hatch and when to up humidity, stop turning etc.

Thanks! Does the wax paper keep them in place well?

Your name should be "Chicken Stacker"

yep just a wad between the top and the stacked eggs. do a couple tip tests and you're good to go. Just takes a little practice. I don't usually stack in the late spring and summer because then I usually have close to 100% development.

Thanks! My roo use to be covering all 30 of my hens...so with my first hatch only 11 of the 21 I set were fertile. Last weekend I made a "breed pen" for the EE's, so now my roo is only covering 17 hens....I should get a better fertility rate. I have my fingers crossed! I know that not all 24 will be fertile, though, so I thought I'd set 30 and see how it goes.

I'm soooooooo excited!!!!!!!!!! I just set my next batch of 24!!!!!!!

I'm hoping this batch will have a higher fertility rate than my this last one....My roo was covering all 30 hens, then last Saturday I segregated just the EE's so that now he is covering only 17 hens.

21 days...........GO!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I went into lockdown today on my first ever hatch. The Octogon 20 advance has been absolutely wonderful. The temperature has barely moved and if the humidity started to drop I knew it was time to add water. I have 17 shipped eggs (Black Copper Marans- they were only in the mail one day and traveled 60 miles) and 7 of my eggs (4 Barnavelders and 3 Easter Eggers). I only had one questionable egg and four so dark I couldn't really see through them when I candled, but everybody else was moving on day 16. All of them passed the smell test before I locked them down this afternoon, so my fingers are crossed.....

I tried candling my eggs.... although, I'm not quite sure what they are suppose to look like, however, I only had two that I *think* may not be doing anything, but they really aren't taking up much space, so they will contine cooking. I'm sure a brighter light would have helped me out some, maybe next time. Mine are due to hatch on the 22cnd.
Lovin' the chickie pics!!
