if you are still doing Penedesenca and or Empordanesa please chime in...
Not much action on this thread. Messaging a few of you it seems there are still some of us raising them.

Let our voices be heard. This breed needs help let us work together.
I am in Northern California and am raising Crele and hatching some Wheaten's in 2 weeks

I plan on raising black Pene's and White Empordanesa as well once I can get them and will be willing to share hatching eggs and (locally chicks)
once they get too laying

i have a breeding quad of white emp's and a few chicks from them... i have some partridge Pene hens but no rooster... i put them in with the white emp's and have hatched some really cool looking buff Colombian looking chicks that are growing out now...

CHIME IN MY CHICKEN FRIENDS !!!

the one thing that i have learned about these breeds (and it has been an expensive lesson) is they need room... that has been my problem when i first got them... i keep my pairs and trio's in small pens during breeding season and then free range them in the off season... i kept loosing birds for no reason they just where not doing good and i could not figure out y... i lost my Crele's and my partridge roosters twice... all of my other birds where just fine and i hardly ever would loose anything but the Pen's... so i started doing a necropsy after they died... i found out i had lost 2 roosters to a broken neck... being in a smaller cage when ever anything would go by they would get startled and jump/fly around... so after i figured that out i started to build bigger breeding pens and they have done much better ever sense... but i just haven't had the time and or money to buy more stock to get back into it... the only other problem i have is the setting... these buggers are some of the best setters out there... but I'm not really set up to let them set and raise there baby's so they will set for months and are almost imposable to break from it... so i do most of my hatching in the fall that seams to work out the best for me...

Good Luck with the eggs , Jason. Hope you get 2 & 2 healthy vigorous chicks.
I was wondering if the whites were the only Empordanesa imported here to the U.S. they are the only ones I have ever seen offered. I see no reason why other colors cannot be established after the breed has been stabilized. That statement will probably raise the ire of some purists , oh well.
Like Jason I hope the Penes and Emps can get a stronger foothold but I suspect that it will be a long uphill struggle. Mine need a lot of work , it is the very reason , the challenge , that makes me want to see if I can succeed. If it is easy, why bother? Anyway Best Wishes to all. Bill
