Snow/freezing rain here today. Had to clean the ice off of and fill the feeders this AM. While I was working on the 'West' feeder a Junco arrived and started feeding right at my feet - neat!
I keep one feeder filled through mid summer for any nesting birds - generally stop feeding Sept. or so. Somewhere around first frost I can count on the Chickadees 'telling' me that it is time to fill the feeders. There is one feeder (East feeder) by my parking lot, and when I exit the truck they will fly towards me going dee dee dee, and then fly back to the feeder as if to say, "OK, Boss, fill it up. The Chickadees are generally my tamest birds. Generally the Juncos are not that tame - must have been a hungry bird this morning. The Red Tail was checking for squirrels again today - not a squirrel in sight.
