It's my fault, I shouldn't have trusted the dogs for more than a minute. I won't trust them again with chickens for a very long time. The coop continues not under quite the time pressure.

I will spend a little time on my much neglected house and yard today before resuming work on the coop.

Oh no, that's no good... I'm so sorry Jeria.

We went to the Vernon County Youth Fair in Nevada. Lots of chickens and turkeys...they had big fans keeping all the animals cool. It's a big fair, only for the kids and their livestock, and other exhibits, no carnival stuff which we don't go to see anyway. I can't imagine being there today in all this rain, it will be muddy. But the kids are enthusiastic and enjoy it anyway I'm sure. They love answering questions about their animals.
Here's a Mille Fleur D'Uccle rooster that was competing...

So Pretty! Hope you wore your mud boots.

Hope everyone's chickens are doing OK. The weather people said cooler today. The temp is in the 80's but 80% humidity and a heat index of 100 and it's only noon. Working in the sun, with wood painted white and too many cool down breaks.

Our chickens are faring well in the heat...We have a big new annex to the run back under the trees. And I put another nipple water bucket back there. Nipple buckets are awesome!! (And cheap to make your own...) The water is always clean. The youngsters learned to use it immediately, and taught the older hens after we integrated everyone together.

That's good, nice that they can be under the trees. I'm planning on horizontal ones before the summer is out. Mine is stuck in the sun but will have a white metal roof and by next year a bunch of tall plants and hops vines on the sides. Could not put it under the trees because of a low area that gets and stays mucky and zoning laws.

Floor is in, one wall frame is up, the 2nd wall hauled to the backyard. This is a short burst outside then a quick cool down and water or beer break and back outside for both myself and the dogs, except they don't get the beer sort of day.

I posted some photos from today's progress under the Coop building forum section. The title Gramcracker's coop. My triplets often call me Gramcracker. A bit weird when you walk into a high school football stadium and you hear bunch of boys yell "Gramcracker" their friends included. That may be my coop's name.
