calling any one from missouri

Hello all, wife and I live 45 minutes north of Columbia on a cattle/goat farm that has somehow evolved to include guineas, Cochins, wyandottes and recently a pair of pekins. Wife is really loving her pekins, they follow her around the yard like little lost puppies. I would like to suprise her with another couple females. Anyone know of a breeder nearer than heartland hatcheries?

welcome to the MO thread!

One of our okra plants is (we just measured it) 8' 8" tall. We have 3 plants and they are more like trees. I like to cut the pods in half lengthwise and saute in olive oil till brown and they are actually sweet tasting. Not slimy.
Any one else growing okra?

My Dad used to fry up okra and it smelled so bad I'd leave the house lol. One thing he did make that I've never found the recipe for is flour bread cooked in a cast iron skillet. It was about 3/4" thick and very good.

Speaking of heights, I've never had much luck with gardens as I would forget them. This year I planted some tomato seeds from Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds from Mansfield, MO. They ended up in some ~3 gallon planters and one is 7' tall and the rest are 6' tall. I got a very late start planting. I was visiting my neighbor and she was showing me a pair of raised beds with a cattle panel arch and man that looked nice so I built one and ran to the store to get what ever I could put in it that late in the season. All I can say is regular tomato cages are a waste of time they are much too short.

J, can you take a picture of your raised bed? We've been wanting to do something like that. I'd like to see yours :)

There you go, 8' between them and a cattle panel arch. The beds are made from 8' landscaping timbers cut in half. A layer of rotten firewood went in first to take up some space then potting soil mixed with chicken poop compost :)

What weeds?

You need weeds? You’re welcome to mine :) This is the first year we won the weed war...at least till the end of August when I decided I was over gardening for the year. Of course I’ve still got peppers coming in & now I’m having to stomp weeds to get to them. Y’all have some mean weeds here.

Never had any luck with okra no matter where I’ve lived. Can’t get enough to ripen at the same time do do anything with.

I gotta say, you all are a talkative bunch.

My chicks are now 15 weeks. I’ve opened their nests & I see evidence they’ve been checking them out. More combs & waddles, butt bone spread still narrow. Pics in a minute.
