Thanks everyone for the compliments. In response to some questions/concerns:
The automatic door is more for when we will be out of the country on vacation, it will just be easier for the folks who take care of them. As well as nights like tonight where we don't get home until way after dark. Just gives me some peace of mind that they are tucked in and safe.
As for food/water, at this time it is still warm enough for that to be outside. When it gets colder I will move some inside for them so they don't have to venture out if they don't want.
Also, great call regarding the heat lamps, we took care of that tonight and made them more secure
A friend of our parked this camper on our property several years ago because he didn't have a place to store it. Over the years he has used it more or less for storage. This summer he came out to get some stuff out of it and made a comment that he was going to have it taken to a dump as he had no use for it anymore. I just couldn't stand the thought of it going to the dump when it was still usable for something. And as with all chicken lovers, I have that tendency to look at things and think "that would be a really cool coop." So when he said he was going to get rid of the dump we asked him if we could have it for a coop. He said sure, it was the least he could do since we have stored it for years without charging him a cent.
As for as money into it, we bought several sheets of OSB for a new floor, a new roof and the nesting boxes. I also purchased the single vinyl tiles, paint and the automatic door. We spent right around $300. total. Oh...make that $370, my husband used this as an opportunity to buy that new oscillating multi-tool that Craftsman has now. He used it for some of the demo.
I have to say one of the things I like best about this coop is all the windows, I can see in without disturbing them by opening a door, something I had to with their previous coop. The windows are all head high to me, so I can just peek in on them.
Again, thanks for all the great compliments.
