Campine Chicken thread?

Pics
if you have some pictures of the hens too, I'd love to see them
you could start by finding a new, more ideal rooster and matching with the hens
and match him again with the offspring
so in 2 years time you should make some improvement
and cull rigourously

After reading and looking at pics of what to breed for I realize my trio is light years away. The guy I got mine from probably bought culls from someone else, knowingly or not. I don't have the energy or time to breed them back where they should be so I'm just going to enjoy them as is.

Sure, I have Campines at home too that I don't breed with. They just give me eggs and are nice to look at even though not perfect. Nothing wrong with that.

I have some BEAUTIFUL, and I mean BEAUTIFUL, Campine roosters that are no where near standard! I admire them for their flashy plumage and shape. They are striking birds, but if I can't give them to someone as lawn decorations, they get culled. It makes me sad, but I can't use them.

My three Campine hens, all 6 months old. Yes, the bottom one is a hen too, although I caught her trying to crow once.

Dries, if she is trying to crow and has that comb, she may have lost her ovary. I had one of those, I kept her for the novelty of a crowing hen. Mine was not a Campine, but she laid for a year and a half and then started showing male traits (large comb, deeper color, dominant behavior) and began to crow. I didn't get any more eggs once that started.

I accidentally lucked out becoming campine owner. This is my first and only. I've ordered DNA testing on if it's male or female but that is another week away. Does anyone have an opinion on gender and quality? It's 7 weeks old.
