Campine Chicken thread?

Pics
Yep, that surprises me, but I did miss the part about it being so young.  Mine have much more comb than that at the same age.  I'm glad you weren't depending on me for identification!!!

Hehe it gave me some hope. The little rascal has started crowing with volume. I am scrambling to re home him before my neighbours report me.

Just wanted to share this one. Danish Campines at a show recently. Did pretty good. The first is hen a cross of English and Danish Campines brought back to Belgium in 2014.

Those are nice, Dries, Do you have any more pics of them? I would love to see some additional angles. Also, what is all that written on the cage cards? It appears to be judges' notes. I think that is a great idea, I wish (there I go again) we would do that in the US. You wouldn't happen to be able to post a pic of the card, would you?

Some new Campines we recently acquired of a Danish breeder. 2 roosters and 6 hens.
One rooster is slightly better than the other. The second one has whiter wing feathers.
The hens seem nice, although one has a comb that flops both ways and has a chest with too many hoofmarks instead of barring.
Another hen seems a lot lighter than the others.
But overall a nice catch.

Beautiful!! Those are much better than mine. Jealous!

I have some chicks hatched from my silver campines that have me a bit confused. Of the 4 girls 2 are feathering out silver and 2 are feathering out golden. I know my trio is not of good quality but now I'm wondering if they have cross breeding in them.

Hmmmmmm. Lets see if we can work this out. It will be fun.

Hens only carry one allele-carrying chromosome and are either pure silver ('S/ - ') or pure gold ('s/ - '.) The 'S' is the dominant silver gene and the 's' means "not silver," aka "wild type" aka "gold." Your hens are silver, therefore, they did not contribute the gold gene ('s') at all. If my understanding of this is correct, the rooster has to be 'S/s.' The Punnett square would look like this...

Cock = S s

H S S/S S/s
e
n - S/- s/-

25% pure Silver males
25% split Silver males
25% pure Silver females
25% pure Gold females

SO - Your little chick must be a pure gold pullet!

That's interesting!!!
Out of 6 hatched I have 2 of the silver pullets, 2 of the golden pullets, 1 silver cock and 1 cock that is not feathering at all. What a crazy mix. Tks for the reply.
