Toms will get this wirey clump of feathers/hairs on their chest by their breasts before they turn a year old. Hens can also have beards so a beard is inconclusive evidence as to sex.

I currently have three hens with beards and have had two other hens that had beards. In the states that allow spring turkey hunting for toms, they make a disclaimer that hens with beards are legal to take.
I know they get beards. All my turkeys have beards. Hens can get them as well. The two in question have small snoods and not much caruncle development so I am hoping for bearded hens
