Can a rooster mate only one hen?

Yes he can mate all 3.
I had 1 rooster to 27 hens and he mated all of them. He will mate any hen available to him.
Are you not wanting him to? Or are you only wanting him to mate with one? ​

A roo/cockerel will mate 1 hen, or 100. If he's in the mood, he'll be breeding every 10 minutes. Pity the poor hen who receives all of that attention. I've even seen a cockerel treading a coffee can. Thankfully, there were no progeny produced from that GE experiment! Though, it would simplify breakfast. One stop prep for eggs and coffee.

Im sorry my prego brain may have taken the question wrong..
Yes it can mate just one hen but is not recommended like @junebuggena said the hen will get over mated with there just being her for him. 3 is a low number as well but better then 1. And also like mentioned all depends on the Roo as well.
I highly recomend enough hens to fulfill his needs if you want to keep him or rehome him if you dont have a way yo have more hens for him.

I think what your seeing is a Pullet matured and He likes her best...He can easily cover 10 Hens daily....

Yes if you have a broody breed of hens. Or an incubator...
It all depends on the hen. I have some that i have had over 3 years and never once gone broody. I have one thats only hatched once and i have bantams that have had 3-4 hatches a year.. so the answer is yes if the eggs are fertile and your hens go broody.
He CAN mate the 3 hens but just watch him because he may over mate them and may hurt them or maybe kill them if he is an aggressive mater.
