What a wonderful thing to do.

The PD needs a lesson in trapping. Here in Ohio if you set a trap it has to be checked everyday!!!! If not checked everyday you will be fined. I am thinking you should call the game warden. He maybe able to help you out here. Good luck to you. And again

thank you for your act of kindness.

I would call the closest TV station and see if they will do a story on it. This needs to be brought to people's attention. It's bad enough that the dog was abandoned, but to leave him unattended for that long of a period is unforgivable.

Ok I am totally irritated at them not tending to the trap. Did they say that they were specifically after a dog? If not I'd let every (nice) dog out of the trap. Being that it is your neighborhood and you have had to rescue dogs from the trap they owe you an explanation as to why they are setting the traps.

I also live in a small town and sometimes we have an actual animal control officer and other times we don't. As much as I wouldn't want to involve the ASPCA (which I would do and ask to remain anonymous) it may be necessary. If your town is as small as mine then your officers do alot of sitting around. It's also possible that they don't know the animal cruelty laws well enough.

I agree or you can set up a camera and record that they do not check the traps then send that to the local news station. New stations love stuff like this and many times get things changed much faster than we can.

You should make the traps go off with a stick or something, so no animals will be able to get trapped in them.

Personally, I would keep springing the trap and keep my mouth shut. I've lived in a small town, and being singled out as a 'trouble-maker' is a bad thing.
I know Tiff is NOT the trouble-maker (in this instance

).

But if I were going to call someone, I'd sure get plenty of evidence before I called anyone on anything. And that would mean letting the trap catch an animal, filming the animal suffering, and leaving it be until several days of film were available as proof. Because without a lot of incontrovertable proof none of this will change for the better.

Right now she has witnesses, and a dog. That's it, and I don't think it's enough, IMO.

I can always use an extra trap lol why not put it up on craigs list or ship it to me? people have no right to trap any animal if they are going to leave them there to starve and die. It would be one thing if they were checking it regularly but if they are not then I would make the trap go away, or you could just close it I guess.

I think rescuing that dog was a wonderful thing

I have to agree with you there. I am not willing to let an animal suffer. I just can't do it.
Just to let you know how small my town is. We only have a Volunteer Fire department, our EMS comes from 1 county over, the police chief lives 4 house's down from me. We have 1 red light. Our City employees are our animal control

It just sickens me to see those stupid traps and to know that there is nobody that works for this city that gives a d**n about these animal's. I know that the traps are set for dogs!! I have been told this by the Police chief him self. So, as myself and some of the other's here have said, I will keep springing the traps!!

Thanks everybody for being so supportive!!

Seems to me the PD has come up with a BRILLIANT plan.......

I mean all they have to do is set a trap in public. Once they catch a dog they know someone like you will come along and give it a home. No muss, little fuss and they don't have to spend the money on a shot or gas to put it down.
