Can my flock survive this heat?

We keep one of those little plastic kiddie pools around. It makes the air cooler slightly (although the mosquitoes thicker!) and it nearby for any quick chick dips in the cool water. Although it’s really hard to keep it clean with so many kids running about!

I had Australorps in the past. They did very well in our 100F+ temps, in a large yard with several shaded areas for dust baths and resting.

I am always leery of any kind of fan in an outdoor environment unless it's specifically made for that environment. Especially with the dust from the birds and from the bedding -- which is highly combustible.

If this device is intentionally made for barn use, then good. But if not, I wouldn't.

We didn't buy any fan because the market didn't have any barn use one.

We had a fan, but it didn’t work for us. If you think about it, the breeze cant really get past their feathers, and etible cool things will help more.

We do feed them watermelons and cucumbers. But can we feed it to them everyday? Won't that be in excess?

Mine have been having a hard time too, but thankfully we've had some rain which has lowered temps about 20 degrees. When it was super hot and humid I placed large reusable ice packs in the coop and run. I've watered their run a bit but not too much. "Smoothies" like frozen blended grapes with water, other fruits, ect. Ice in waterers. I purchased a large canvas drop cloth and attached it to a portion on the run to create more shade. It isn't even the hottest part of the year here, but there were a few days that they were really panting so I've been keeping an eye on them.

We are doing the same things for our coop. I hope it rains here too because on of our hen cries because of how hot it is.

I would be careful of using a water pool because it attracts mosquitos. Mosquitos are carriers of diseases such as fowl pox.

Yeah, you can’t give them too many. Only about once every three days.

I’m pretty sure as long as you keep it clean (washing the water out every week) the mosquito larvae won’t have time to mature and fly away before you wash them out and kill them.
