Just an observation: Must be when the Brits exported cats they got rid of all the big bad ones--apparently sent them to Ireland and Australia. There is a post on the predator thread about feral cats down under killing chickens. Haven't heard yet from NZ, SE Asia or South Africa so it may not be a real pattern.

Never heard of a feral cat attacking chickens in Australia. Might have to have a look at that post. Our cat is terrified of chickens and will run the other way.

My tack shed kitty had 3 chickens around her this afternoon. All 3 of them are bigger than she is. She got up, and moved to a "safer" area.

When my cat was 1ish she was finally fixed and allowed go to outside ... she met the chickens and would do what i call "the simba practice pounce" ... if you've seen the lion king you know what i mean ... she practiced pouncing on her easy targets ... but would literally pounce and scram ! ... as the chickens would definitely fight back ... now that she's been outside more often - she's a GREAT hunter ... but has never even blinked at the chickens - or any of the chicks that were hatched and running around this summer (30+ chicks - many fluffy butts hanging out with their moms) ...

Same with my dog - never thought twice about them - however they are both "perturbed" when they are fenced in ... they do watch them then, (that is when they're fenced out side - or in a cage inside etc.) ...

Never lost a chicken to a cat - and we've had 3+ cats ... and local strays and visitors.
