Can you tell me what color these ORPINGTON's R? >>>UPDATE AT 16 WEEKS

YES i do and I am also hoping that they were not harmed. I didn't even THINK when I added them about the humidity at all! DUMB! Oh well, I learned. Now we will see what happens with the rest.

I can sure see why the bator needs to be cleaned after hatches tho! WHEW...this crew was WAY messier then my first hatch was. They are cute tho...here is the last hatch and now that brings it to 100% hatch rate with these crew! They are all beauties! I have one that as it dries looks more and more like a lavender color. Very beautiful! the last one was a black baby...now i have two of those. I will update pics here too as the days go by. I am contacting western chick this afternoon to see if I can get ahold of her. I just want to know what my babies really are! LOL

This is the only halfway decent picture of one of my blue rocks newly hatched that I could come up with. It's the chick in the middle of the picture blue down the back and yellow on the sides and belly. That's how all my blue rocks have been except for the one splash I hatched. Some have had less yellow and more blue down on them. I'm wondering if her orp hens are really Blue rocks. My rock chicks have been very easy to tell from the blue orps I've hatched at the same time.

You may be on to something Katy!!...the hens could be blue rocks instead of orps....the rooster still looks blue wyandotte...

Yes, I agree the roo looks like a blue wyandotte. I should post a picture of my wyandotte roo. Here he is. I'd go take a side shot, but it's raining out..He's not quite 4 months old, so he's not very mature yet.

Hi Hangin.....I am one of the other's that purchased eggs too. Out of 11, I had 3 hatch....and they do appear to be splash Orps. I already had some splash, blue and black Orp chicks in the brooder from someone else so I was able to compare them. All 3 have the correct comb too. I was pleased with how big and healthy they were, and the eggs were huge. One is silvery, and the other two have more blue down their backs....but none look like your's. If I remember right, she told me she had black hens, but I can't remember the color of the rooster. I was expecting a possibility of all 3 colors though based on whatever it was she had told me. I had deleted my correspondence with her last night as I was done with the hatch and happy with the results and even emailed her back that I was. My hatch date was 7/1 and 7/2. Is it possible you got someone else's eggs of another breed she has?

If the parents are of pure bred heritage and they are black hens and the roo is blue there is no way to get a splash chick. Genetics does not work that way.

Miss Prissy is correct. Blue bred to black will only yield blue and/or black chicks. It's why I know that putting my black pullet in with Suede will only get me blues and blacks. I'm hoping for a splash pullet from the ones I'm hatching to get more blues and splashes than blacks. (although the blacks are beautiful)
