Canadians check in here....

Sara Bella,

If you do a search for poultry hatcheries in Canada you'll find some. I am ordering some very beautiful chickens / Cayuga ducks from DC Heritage Chickens. They have been helpful to me in emails & are even going to meet me between here n there to hand deliver hatched chicks to me. They don't ship hatched chicks like many do, but seems you live close enough to drive to their farm if you like. Hope that helped get you pointed in the right direction.

The Elusive Mountain Wampus!
Thanks for that info. I have been looking for a hatchery closer to NB and hadn't yet found this one!! I just perused their entire website and will be ordering from them. Thank you!!!

As I've kept researching hatcheries I came across another that offers several types of birds, including rarer, less commercial breeds. They raise every bird that I am ordering from DC heritage so I can now buy another bunch from http://www.performancepoultry.com/index.php . This way I can be sure to have similar but different genetics in my flock, and hopefully strengthen the genes in my flock rather than dilute them w possible inbreeding.

I'm on Vancouver Island in B.C. - ANYONE know of anywhere else other than Rochester that has a good selection of Heritage breeds OR good breeders in B.C. where I can get some young pullets?????

I want to add up to 10 layers to my flock and would like Heritage breeds......anyone???? Help!????

Miller hatchery?

So I crawl into bed and realize its trash day...

I go out and its snowing! 1/2inch already and it blowing around... how can I build my coop that I've planned out & can't wait to see finished if the snow is still over knee deep?! So yeah I'm ready for spring :)

Good night Canada,
"The Elusive Mountain Wampus"
( what old game is the mountain wampus from? )

Meatking, I live in Jasper.
I hoping for another good sap run after this cold snap were having. I'm small scale, 26 taps this year and have boiled all my sap to date and nw have a bit over 5 litres of finished syrup.
Just started with chickens in February. I've got 6 laying hens, but so many people want to buy my eggs I'm planning on going to 9-12 to see how that goes. Good times

Small scale 26 taps, wish we had that many :)

So you've already started the chicken math, We stared with 10 now have 23... That's all we can fit!!

Yes, already into chicken math. haha
Do you know of any breeders your way? I'm looking at a couple barred rock pullets out in Westport. $15 each... is this a normal price for them? All my hens are sex-links and I paid $17 for all 6... smoking deal, but that wont happen often.
I also was conisdering buying a breeding trio, but I'm thinking against the rooster now... I dont want to annoy the neighbours. My lot is 1.3 acres, 94 feet wide x 600 feet deep. So although my coop is back in the back field, the houses beside mine are fairly close to me.

Quote: I can definately say no to a rooster.....I live far from nearest house ( 1000 or more ft) but , still can hear my roosters at their place ...loudly....the lay of the land here is such ( top of a hill overlooking lake) that the echo carries far....My neighbours sure know when I'm weaning cattle..LOL...
There are plenty of pullets available , and even if you hatch out your own from fertile eggs , you can remove the roos before they start to crow....

Just a wee note...I went to Jasper Public School 1960-1963......
