Candid game cam pix: and the life of my chickens

Oh, thank you so much! Duh! I would have known that if I'd just paid attention to the IR abbreviation you posted. But the bit about the temp variation is new to me and makes things much clearer.

In addition to the person I'd like to give one too, I'd like one myself--would love to try to get a pic of a coyote out in the back 20...

BTW, I was glad you released the possum.

That series of shots with it reacting to the 2 roos is priceless!

I finally caught a predator on the game cam. It's one of those "strange" ones that wears a "belt" around it's neck......

It didn't get any birds, though, so that's good. There is a little trail back there that leads to the neighbor's fenceline, and I knew via my dog's sniffing activity that *something* was using the trail so I set the cam thatta direction....

I want a second cam so I can see other sides of the pen, aka see what the dog did after he came onto our property. Some of the neighbors that live across the street (opposite direction of this trail) their dogs have come over and shown ZERO interest in the birds, plus they are usually penned responsibly so I'm not too overly concerned about them, but some other dogs attacked once and I lost 6 birds in one day and I don't know whose dogs were responsible. I got a story from a neighbor that I didn't fully believe, if ya know what I mean....

Nope all accounted for. Thankfully.

There's only 4 roos outside my fairly secure pen, they sleep on top of it which is fairly safe, but I still disapprove of predators scopin the place out.

Yeah..i hear ya. I would NOT be happy about that guy roaming around my yard...

I love that dominique (it is one right?). And I love How the marans roo looks so proud. Great pics!

The only thing i got when put up the trail cam is a bunch of " beauty" shots of turkeys!

Another doggy visited us this afternoon. I know where this one lives. I think it's a pitty that lives at the end of the road, he is nice no problems with the dog or his breed, but he has owner issues. He's allowed to roam....

And we had a fire next to the coop. No photo evidence of how it started. Possibly a cigarette butt on the pine needles by the road?? Dog came by at 5:36pm and nothing was amiss, next thing the firefighters were there at 7.32pm. The temp was up about 20*F from the fire, and you can see the red glow from it. For some reason the fire must have messed with the sensors because it didn't use the IR flash much during the fire.

When I arrived (I'm the one on the far right, by the fire chief)

The IR flash has never malfunctioned before. It worked both before and after the fire, but apparently not during (when I wanted to see what was going on....) so I can only assume that the fire must have confused it somehow.

Well, this is what happened in SOME of the pictures. I used Picasa to lighten it up, and you can see how the firetruck's light was shining right into the sensor. My cam must have thought it was daylight

This is essentially copied from the predators thread:
We had a LOT of canine visitors this morning: (I think there was a smudge on my camera lens, all photos came out with a fuzzy place that looks like fog)

I like setting my cam to see who comes up the drive, as we have 2-legged predators as well. However, I want to get a second cam to point TOWARDS the coop to see exactly what the dogs are up to (testing the fences? etc)

See Mr Red my roo on the truck bed trailer is smart enough not to come down for a while after the dogs visit:

Never seen these white dogs before today either

Mr Red still has not come down from his roost even though it's past 7am. Smart boy!

And this is the pit bull that lives down the road. Second time I've caught him on cam. I've complained to animal control about him being at large, but he still roams. Stupid owners. Though at least, he doesn't seem to be causing trouble. Mr Red is standing in the background, but the dog didn't go after him.

And just for kicks, ME
