I will say that I never recommended calling CPS because those kids look like they are stopping after getting off the bus...kids are kids. When I was little, I played outside and probably trespassed onto neighbor's property more than once. I played outside from morning to night in the summer, and my parents rarely knew for sure where I was. Did I ever threaten an animal, mine or a neighbor's? No. Did I respect the neighbors pets by keeping my pets under control? Even as a child? Absolutely.

Hence, why I suggest the letter as a first step. Let the parents know what their kids are up to. Let them see the pictures, even. Also, request that the children and dogs be kept away. Once they are notified that they ARE NOT WELCOME, you legally have a leg to stand on with the police and courts to file harassment and trespassing complaints.

I did look at the photos.....one kid had his arms up in the air (didn't look like "flapping") They looked harmless (as NO chicken was spotted on the camera anywhere)...they just looked to be walking around all the crap laying around your yard. A little rude & uncalled for to call them delinquents. Unless you have PROOF that they took anything you are just speculating and quick to pass judgement. They very well may have NOTHING to do with any junk missing from your yard. Kids will be kids and they looked like they were not harming anything (other than trespassing on a neighbor's property that is a little too judgemental and paranoid). Lock your chickens up if you don't want them harrased or chased....you're the owner, take responsibility for protecting your own flock and quit blaming people you have no proof against. Kids...leave alone or tell them not to come on your property and don't accuse them without proof...Dog...still different story.

Why is the dog different story?? Its not at all different.. Both are trespassing and harassing her chickens...
I dont want your kids OR dogs on my property without MY supervision... Period.

She has good sized roos on that land... they can do a LOT of damage to a kid... Then guess who gets sued?? And that wont bring back a kids eyeball either if a roo gets him good..

Tala.. I'd warn the kids/parents ONE time... (do NOT even mention the camera either)..if you see them on your property again..i'd call the police for trespassing. And yes..if they keep going on your property..CPS can and SHOULD be called..cause the parents are NOT watching their kids. Period.
Those are young kids... no way a parent should not be right there supervising them...

I totally agree the children should not be there but based on the photos she had no PROOF they were harrassing her birds. All I saw was them standing around and walking on those metal panels with no birds in sight. I am irritated that the threat of CPS was being brought up and them being called delinquents. She has no right to make a statement like that. A CPS call for stuff like this is a nuisance to the agency and should not be taking their time away from REAL cases that need their attention. Much of this has been blown out of proportion by the OP in my opinion and the accusations made regarding the children are speculation and a lot of over reacting. Before threatening to call CPS or the police for kids walking in her yard she needs to calm down and tell them and the parents in person not to trespass and get better PROOF that they were actually harrassing anything. I have no issue with being upset that the camera caught a dog chasing the rooster....I'd be ticked too. But to take out frustrations on kids that may not have been doing anything to her birds by calling them names is a bit out of line for an adult. That is all my point is. I agree SOMETHING needs to be said to the kids AND parents about dogs being kept away and kids staying out of her yard. Just have better proof that the kids are part of the problem before accusing and threating to take photos that didn't show anything to the police or calling CPS.
