I am Jewish and for religious reasons I can not eat shell fish... we live totally kosher.. in my religion shell fish are an unclean food... but everyone is telling me that the chicks will need the shells for good eggs.... I am wondering is there anything else that can be given instead of the shells ?

Egg shells. After you use the eggs, save the egg shells. Zap them in the microwave or in the oven after you've baked(using the leftover heat) and then crush them. Also, you can give them high-calcium foods to help with that, such as yogurt and kale.
