Raven returned to the three and knelt down beside them "Only a little further, then you can all rest." She said softly.

Mavis moaned in protest when Raven tried to coax him on. All he wanted to do was curl up into a ball and sleep right where they were.

"Go on," Linden leaned over and grabbed Maple's hand. "Go across first with Raven, I'll follow."

Maple detached herself from Mavis and reached towards Raven as Linden helped her up again. Still lacking good vision, she couldn't see the path, and was afraid that they were walking into deep water.

'Twwack!' The old wood splintered easily under the force of the axe. 'Twwack! Twwack! Twwack' The door burst open.

"The trail goes this way!" Merek said, finding the blood spatters easily by the light of their torch.

Raven took the girl's hand and started to lead her across. "Don't worry, the path is level all the way." She said gently to the girl. She looked back to Linden and Mavis.

Maple followed Raven, cautiously but willingly. She trusted the woman's voice, and followed that in addition to Raven's hand.

Back on the bank, Linden had managed to get Mavis standing again and led him to the edge of the water. He didn't feel confident enough in his own physical ability to lead the boy across, and so he waited for Raven to return.

All three of the bandit walked with weapons at the ready, knowing their quarry could be lying in wait, ready to spring an ambush. The noise of the waterfall easily covered their noise, but their torch was like a beacon in the night as they approached closer to the waters edge...

From his position at the edge of the water Linden was unable to see the torch behind him as they approached in the dim light. Had the water not been so loud he would have been able to hear them, but he was not so lucky. He did have one advantage though, and that was that in the dark the water acted as a shimmering mirror. While staring ahead, he caught a glimpse of the bright orange light and moved to turn around while still holding onto Mavis...

Raven took Maple across and was on her way back again when she saw the light of the torch. She pulled her bow and set an arrow as she made her way to the shore "Get across, now" She said quietly to Linden and Mavis then moved into the trees. She climbed one and used the thick branches to move closer to the bandits without being seen. She stopped and took aim for the torch, releasing the arrow.

By this time Linden had turned around and also seen the torches, although the bandits themselves were still hidden in darkness. Realizing that Mavis had to get across as quick as possible, Linden grabbed the boy's hand and slowly began shuffling across the path to the island on the other side. Their progress was painfully slow, but steady, and both managed to get to the other side without slipping.

After leaving Mavis with Maple and Terrick, Linden stepped back onto the path to try and retrieve Pike's body before the bandits got to it.

"Arrow!" Algar's voice warned from the darkness, sounding pained. The bandits wasted no time and dove for the cover of trees, quickly extinguishing their torches. "They're up by the edge of the water," Algar said, keeping his back to the tree as he inspected the wound. Luckily, it had just grazed his arm. "I think the archer is up there too. Didn't see him though."

He waited for his vision to adjust before lowering himself flat to the ground and peering over the root of the tree. It was too dark to make out anything except for the water... and Linden's large shadow seemingly walking on top of it. "What the..." Algar whispered to himself, before realizing the water must simply be extremely shallow there.

Meanwhile, Merek had retreated out of range of the archer and was using the sound of the waterfall as cover to circle quickly around, intending to use the backdrop of the water to try to find the archer's silhouette in the dark.
