Yeah I know. I hear about breeding the Dad to the daughter and other stuff...no thank you! I mean it's fine if people want to, I just don't want to. And I would take them to the swap but just interview there. I am taking birds to our swap in October but I will be grilling everyone who even thinks about adopting one
lol.png
It is always a bittersweet day though.

I just dont want that "crazy chicken lady who asks a million questions" look lol

also I got swamped last swap when I had Star's siblings and her brothers and 2 OEGB girls! it was insain!! got there at 8:30 an was literally sold out of everything by 10:30!!

Lol I don't mind if they look at me like that...cause I am!

I'm very possessive of my Seramas...all my birds really...so I have just learned that if people don't like how I do things, too bad

I mentioned, briefly, that I lost a baby today. It was one of the broody babies I took away from Billie yesterday after I caught her pecking them constantly. I put them in with the older babies but they wouldn't stop crying and it was driving Cordelia crazy. So, I put them in with her. Everything was fine last night and this morning but then this afternoon I found one of them dead. It was so heartbreaking. I have never had this kind of bad luck with broody's and their babies. It is usually so easy and simple. This time it has been extremely difficult and sad. I will not be letting my hens raise babies again anytime soon. I will probably give them to my Silkie if I want to hatch more. She is the perfect Mommy and raised one of my first Serama hens, Ainslee. She is a beautiful pure white girl who is afraid of roosters
roll.png
She has a panic attack whenever I put her in with one, completely shuts down, so she has to live with her Momma. The last time she was isolated for a month, listening to Bach 24/7 and barely moving. I thought I was going to lose her! Go figure, lol my only pure white Serama and I can't breed her

I candeled 2 of the eggs that had detatched Air Cells and one of them is already developing AND you can see the heart beat!!

I seen heartbeats in 8 eggs today! and its only day 3!!

lol I'll give it a try an see how it goes! I guess if it starts to become too much and I dont like anyones answers, I can always just pack them up. Although it seems like people have problems reading, I put "NOT FOR SALE" on 2 Silkie chicks I just bought an my show birds last swap in big red letters and I still got asked how much for them!

That is awesome news!!! I have several that way right now and I am just a few days away from lockdown. I am just being super careful with my turning and not candling as often as I normally do with these guys.

for both of us!

I heard that setting eggs in an egg carton would keep the air cell where it should be... I wonder if it would work for the 3 eggs with the detatched air cells?
Just cut a carton in half just big enough to hold the 3 eggs an prop up one side..

Tiny Chick (TC) updated.
She (we'll be optimistic here) is doing well. She is getting tiny wing feathers. I'll post a picture later.
However, as a lone chick, she shriek peeps when left alone and is not pacified by mirrors or snuggy animals.
She thinks a person hand is her momma. She runs to the hand when you put it in the brooder, and eats when the hand pecks at the food. and is happiest snuggled in your palm.
Luckily, Meyer Hatchery is only a couple of hours away. I placed an emergency chick order on Friday, so Monday afternoon three chicks will join TC.
They are 2 hamburgs and a lakenvelder and will be much bigger. But, TC will be the older sibling so everything should work out. And in 18 weeks I'll get eggs!!

I re-candled tonight (Im a candle addict in the first few days... I just LOVE seeing the heartbeats more then anything) here is the count of development so far..
Thaddeus- 9 sent - 4 developing (2 more then I saw this morning!)
Amadeus - 6 sent - 3 developing
Nepoleon - 1 sent - 1 DEVELOPING
ya.gif

I am really happy with these numbers and even happier that with each time I candle theres always one more that I didnt see the day before!!
For example, I didnt see anything in the Nepoleon egg even before I candled it this last time, I turned it an kept candling the rest and came back to it an right there was the little heartbeat! It was hidding from me!

That's 50% fertility so far. I can't wait to see if you get a few more developing. I had a few that waited almost 7 days so fingers crossed
