Cats and adult chickens

I have A LOT of outdoor cats. They are so afraid of the chickens that they scat when I free range them.

As soon as I put the hens back.........the cats come around again.........and get this.......THEY BURY THE CHICKEN POOP!

Honest,

Mary

Carmel will catch full size crows and starlings but she hasn't tried to go near my full grown chickens. Not even the smallest bantams. She'd gladly eat chicks and button quail though.

I have several outside cats (Strays, Ferals, & Neighbors) They share with the possoms and racoons but need protection from the hens.

I have the biggest cat I've ever seen live. Weasel's over 25 pounds- and it's not fat. My friend calls him a Cocker Spaniel in a cat-suit. His skull and feet are huge. He catches full grown bunnies and squirrels, beheads them and leaves them as presents for me (it makes me cry). He's declawed, but that doesn't bother him a bit. Weasel stares down the neighborhood pit bulls.

He runs like his tail is on fire if my girls get near him.

When we put the young chicks (6 weeks old) outside in the chicken pen, our five cats were really interested in the chicks. The cats looked like they were licking their lips in anticipation of a tasty meal. We were really careful until the chicks grew larger. Now that all our chickens are 5-7 months old, the cats pretty much ignore them. I think the cats realize that these chickens are not to be messed with. I let the chickens out of their pen when I'm home, and the cats are not a concern anymore.

Can I borrow your cats to teach mine to at least bury their own poop? Nothing like hitting it with the lawn mower, makes the entire yard smell so good.

My big old cat just lays in the middle of the yard lounging when the chickens are free-ranging. She doesn't bother them but they will inspect her once in a while. The funny part was when my Buff roo mistook her for a squatting hen

its been years since she jumped that high straight up in the air!

We did aquire a kitten this summer though and she thought she would be tough and stalk the hens. She learned fast not to do that

Now she just pretends. She's only about 6 months old now.
