Caught One....Now What?!

An easier way is to get a big garbage can with a lid. Put the trap in the garbage can and put the lid on.

Purchase a can of starting fluid. (ether). Crack the lid of the trash can, just enough to spray about 1/2 the contents of the can into the garbage can. Place the lid back on the can tight and wait 15 minutes or so.

It will put the coon to sleep for good. You will even have enough to take care of the next one you catch.

The tailpipe method is a good one as well. But I prefer the ether.

I agree Darin,,, however I favor a .03 cent .22 round over 2 gallons of gas and 4 bucks for the ether, you can't sell a prime coon skin in January for what it cost to harvest the pests,, and I HATE relocators,,, yeah a buddy has lots of land bordering mine, where the road is and it's easy access, then people like me end up killing the SOB after it was caught once.

The food for thought for the day,,,,,,,,,, I'M FULL !!!!!
No one needs someone elses problem.

PS Joe needs to grow a set and just take care of your problem,,,please don't make it someone elses.

and I hope your pest doesn't kill a kids pet

Sure kill that one, then what do we do with the it's sister, or brother to follow?

Were does it end?

Why not learn to live in peace together?

It is up to us to protect what we have breed!
They are just doing there job.

As a former animal damage control opperator I can tell that once a coon figures out people are a good place to find food they will always look for people with more stuff to eat. Do not relocate. You are just creating a problem for someone else. Not to mention raccoon rabies is making a fast path to Kentucky. Catching critters and relocating them several miles away is the fastest way to spread disease.

Also when you dump a critter into territory it does not know well it is going to get its butt kicked by all the coons that already have territory set up there. The first thing it will do is start heading straight back where it came from. Most likely it will get splattered on the road. Do it a favor and put a .22 bullet in its head. Fast and humane. Do not gas on a tail pipe - in most states this will get you a quick ticket for animal cruelty. Death by carbon monoxide is about the worst death imaginable. You do not just go to sleep, the body goes through a ton of really nasty stages before you die. If you don't want to shoot it find someone with a 220 or 160 conibear trap, stick it over the door end of the trap, open door coon runs out and bang, its dead. I have caught hundreds of coon in conibears and 95% of the time the hit the ground right where the trap is set.

This only works when both parties cooperate. The kindest solution is a .22 bullet between the eyes.

If you're going to trap predators, have the foresight to come up with the solution before you catch one. Leaving the animal in the trap while you fret about what to do causes undo stress to the animal. "Relocating" (i.e. "dumping") is the same as dumping your trash on someone else's lawn. The animals that get dumped on our property feed the Turkey Vultures the very next day.

I say to protect your critters and you won't have to kill the ones that just happen to live around us.
When you shoot that one, there will be another to fill the spot in no time! Sure kill him to then the next, hell I could just hunt here from my porch, I bring them in by breeding food they like. Were does it end? When we have nothing left to kill?

Thats what I do. lol. I have even relocated juvinelle (sp?) rats. If the get in the "dead" rat trap, thats fine. But if I catch them in the live trap, I just cant kill them. I have a heart, I couldnt do that. It would haunt me for the rest of my life.

Good Luck with the coon problem.

Go a head soon the coons will have casinos too!
