Caught this little guy snooping around the chicken house last night...

That's a good question. I haven't palpated it that much because it's still tender but I will surely update when I get a chance to. The wound is less than a week old so I will give it a couple more weeks.

Drumstick really didn't have much of a wound to see at all, there wasn't much blood or torn skin to see. The skin around it was bruised, bluish-green, for several days. I didn't need to do anything to tend to his injury, he got better all on his own. It's impressive to see how well he gets around on his one leg. I keep him in a covered pen with 3 other bantams. If he were out in the yard I fear he'd be attractive to preying hawks, and also a target for bullying from the other large cockerels & roosters.

It would be the same if another, bigger coon had moved into his environment. He would have been forced to leave or been killed.

This little guy probably just left moms side (got kicked out really) and is looking for home territory for himself. Your backyard and coop is not available for him to homestead on. I'm glad you had the opportunity to relocate him, but without that option, a quick death is in the cards.
