Celebrating the Silver Spangled Hamburg

I've got 29 chickens (20-something different breeds, I forget exactly how many....

) and 9 ducks (5 various breeds). So, I've got close to your number of birds.

Isn't chicken and duck math fun but destructive at the same time?

yeah.. here is what she looked like before all this. She is at the bottom of the pecking order so she is a little scraggledy.

Oops I guess this thread got a little buried! Update time: the Brahma died, I got rid of 14 chickens (and cut my feed bill by more than half!) And my newly laying pullets saw a toad and were terrified! Every time it moved they jumped back 5 feet! Oh, and I got a really gross plug of stuff out of Emma's foot. :sick and... Drumroll please... I finally got rid of the lice infestation that was terrifying my flock!!!!!!

Sorry I was MIA for a few days!

I am also so sorry for your loss, Bubbles.

The good thing is that we all know that she was loved and given a wonderful life.

Did Emma have bumblefoot? I have a Barred Rock hen who has it....or had it. That "cork" came out naturally on its own, but her poor foot is still pretty swollen; I guess this is a project for the weekend, huh?

Hooray for mites that are no longer!!!!!

We've been pretty blessed thus far and have never seen a single mite on any of the birds.

So here's my update for you: there's no doubt about it, T.Roo's maturing and growing up. I'm having a little trouble with him crowing in my presence and attempting to wing dance at me, so my priority at the moment is continuing to stand steadfastly dominant over him.

Let's just say there's been a little pecking, chasing, and holding him going on to hopefully remediate that bold behavior.

Thanks!

Kristin is more of a softer gentler type and Curious is always wanting to fight (in a good way!) and very spunky. I'll get a video of them for you guys soon
