Cell phone rant

thats when you take your straw, and start making little spit balls and start lobbing them at the back of his head....

nah, just join in the conversation, esp since they often have the volume up so high that you can hear both sides of the call!

Just jump right in offering advice or commiseration. "OMG, my sister is the same way! blah blah blah blah" When they give you the nasty look or comment tell them "Oh, I'm sorry, I thought since we can all hear you that this was a public conversation."

ETA: yes, cells have made it worse, but people having loud inappropriate conversations in public have been going on forever. I was in line at the grocery store and got to learn all about the 2 friends sex lives and one husband's "inadequacies"

I turned around and said "They make a pill for that...."

A least the cashier thought it was funny

I am sure there are a lot of ways we'd like to shut these people up. In fact while in a stall the next guy over was talking on his phone and I just kept flushing the toilet. He either go the hint or just figured it was best to hang up. What a gross disgusting pig. My SIl answered the phone while she was in the can at home and I was so grossed out. Are there no manners about these things? People are so self centered they don't care about other people.

If you are guilty of this , then you are ill bred and need to learn some manners. Manners are not meant to make others feel you are superior but to let others know you respect them.

Maybe there is a toilet flushing ring tone and I can set it on high and keep a second phone to dial the first, so if this happens again I can just dial the first phone and hold it up.

When people are doing the loud talking in stores, restaurants, etc. I like to take out my phone & have an even LOUDER, more dramatic conversation than they could ever possibly have. I mean, CRAZY made up stuff - my friend's string of B&Es that landed him in the clink, affairs that end with someone's house on fire, drug deals gone wrong. It amuses me, and almost always works. (They usually hang up. If they don't I say, "You know, I'm at the store, let me call you back - I HATE BEING ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE BROADCASTING THEIR BUSINESS IN PUBLIC". THAT always works.)

People are crazy with their cell phones. My other pet peeve - just cause I have one doesn't mean I will be available 24-7. I think there are good times to talk, and they are RARE compared with the number of times the darn thing rings. I also hate when I am spending time with a friend & they are spending time with their iPhone contact list. That text is SO important you'll interrupt dinner with me to send it? Grrr.

Unfortunatly, I have to be available on my cell 24/7.... and that means that I check my phone every time it rings, beeps or vibs whether I'm in a theater, in line cashing out, or with a friend for dinner, sleeping, or on the toilet...etc... Never know when it's work calling for an emergency. If figure if they have to call me and I'm on the loo, and I have to be available, thats their problem not mine! I take the call long enough to see what the problem is, then call them back at a more appropriate time.

I've told my friends that no call from me is so important that you need to take it while you are in the bathroom. EEWWWW!!! It's not like I'd follow any of them in there to continue a conversation.

I think a lot of it is a simple lack of manners but I also think that many people think they are more important than everything around them. They are more important than the other diners, they are more important than anyone else on the road, in the theater, in the checkout line. They are so engrossed in their world that they can't see beyond themselves.

Just for fun, here is a anti-cellphone ad from a local theater. It is actually a rant from a customer, very funny...
