Chat Thread for the New Crazy 24 hour Auction

Whew, that's a long story. Lol! I initially started out crossing Ameraucana with Welsummer the first generation, and while I was happy with their egg color, they took way too long to mature. In a side project, I crossed my best laying Leghorn with my Ameraucana. Their offspring ended up producing very nice light blue/green colored eggs faster and of larger size than my Ameraucana or Easter Eggers. I then crossed a cockerel out of that hatch with a BCM hen. Their offspring lay a medium colored large olive egg. That's the general "fly over" gist of it. If you want the exact pairings I'd be more than happy to share my records/pictures. I have a few more pet projects I'm working on with them, but have recently poured most of my focus into my Isabel Leghorn project. We supply our ever growing church and family with eggs, so I'm always trying to improve production out of my colored egg layers as that's what is in demand.

That's great! I'm just beginning to work with a BCMx (that particular rooster threw a coupe wheaten chicks, so he's out of the BCM program, but he's huge, so the males from his cross w the EEs are possible meat birds too.) For now, they're maturing quickly, but it's a a wait and see on the egg color the pullets produce. If you feel inclined and want to pm me with your breeding, etc. I'd love to see it.

Is there anyone here that likes to hatch something out-of-the-ordinary? I am contemplating putting up an auction and wonder if there would be much interest.

So.... I have a grow-out pen that I have been thinking about breaking into breeding/laying pens now that they are laying. Actually, 2 of the pullets were supposed to be re-homed already, but due to predator issues, I still have them. I am not ready to hatch from them yet, so wasn't really thinking about the combination in there... until today that is. I keep telling myself "I do not need another project

What I have: This guy - a Mocha (some call it mauve, but I think mocha is more accurate) cockerel that may carry the blue egg gene to produce green eggs. He looks darker in the picture than he actually is.

In with him are 3 black pullets and a blue pullet. At least 3 of them are laying green eggs, the other may be green or brown. From this match you could hatch chocolate, mocha and/or latte (chocolate splash) pullets and BBS/split-to-chocolate cockerels. I know, cool, but not mind-blowing. But wait...

In with him also are 2 pure Svarthöna pullets!

From this match up you could hatch chocolate and mocha FIBRO pullets

that could lay green eggs (but certainly not guaranteed), as well as black and blue split-to-chocolate FIBRO cockerels. (Google "Swedish Blue Hens" for pics) I have hatched a chocolate Fibro pullet before and she was gorgeous. Let me see if I have a picture...

She is the one in front. Everything that is black on a Svarthöna is chocolate on her. I wasn't going to process her to find out, but I am wondering if her meat would be chocolate, too.

I am not sure exactly what a mocha fibro would look like, but I can imagine!

So, did I pique anybody's interest?

Oh, yeah. You piqued my interest!

do you have pictures??  :pop

Not of the chicks because this is the first time I've done this cross (I have one in the incubator now) but I can get pictures of the parents if you'd like? The father is my NN cockerel Rye (who is supposed to be either an EE or an OE) and the mothers are my CCL hens.
