Chick Shaking Head, Eyes Closed, Lethargic

I think I may have bitten off more than I can chew with trying to raise chicks. :( I'm really emotional seeing them sick and dying...
We ALL think that at one time or another....just look at all the threads in the Emergency section and Predators and Pests section. It seems overwhelming but you'll get through it, we all do.
Besides, cocci can be treated with very good results. I can think of much worse diseases chickens can have. Hang in there and dont give up.

Thank you very much.

The chicks have been treated and I've wiped down every surface that they've touched with ammonia. They are napping now.

Should we not be handling them much? Is there a risk to my kids holding the chicks?

I think it would be best to let the chicks fully recover before letting the kids handle them. Dont forget personal hygiene ie... kids washing their hands with soap and water after handling the chicks as well as after handling other animals including cats and dogs. (No kissing chicks neither.) We wouldnt want to hear that your children got sick in some manner. Not good. :old

Thanks again. We have followed those instructions since I posted but they were holding them before.

The sick little chick is perking up almost seems normal. I can't believe it.

Make sure that your chicks are not suffering from pasty butt, and can poop normally. I have seen a lot of feed store chicks suffering from shipping stress that seem to have poo on their vents. Make sure they are taking plenty of the Corid water. Dip their beaks as often as possible every hour, since they may be dehydrated or sleepy. Good luck, and I hope they survive.
I just saw that you are in Ohio, can I ask where? I'm in Licking County.

The sick chick is perking up and acting almost normal now.

Just as the title says I have a baby chick about 2-4 days old. He or she is shaking head some not often, eyes closed almost always - opening sometimes when I pick it up, lethargic and sleeping all day. It is eating and I am giving it an electrolyte mix (water, brown sugar, salt, baking soda).

Any help at all? We got 9 chicks from Rural King - 4 have survived.

I'm really upset and I'm beating myself up.

Hi there, I'm not really sure what I'm looking for as far as poo? It looks normal to me but I'm new at this. No blood in it.
Feeding them MannaPro Organic chick starter.
Just bought NutriDrench last night to give them after the treatment as per The Chicken Chick's rec.
