You may want to think about ordering some MediHoney.I posted pictures of the cut last night. It maybe a little shorter than your picture. There is skin on the bottom back of the bone so I hoping that will grow and cover the bone.
I'm changing her gauze 3x a day with new neosporin and collidal silver.
I've had to euthanize hens before. I felt if she was fighting I was gonna help her as much as I could!
Rap made me a believer of MediHoney.AwesomeShe's clearly not giving up; I give you huge props for helping her.
It looks like you're doing a great job. I didn't have antibiotics when my cockerel was attacked, so you're a step ahead.
I highly recommend betadine to clean the wound once or twice a day, and then "seal" it with neosporin. After some research I started using medihoney, which heals wounds much faster than normal antibiotic ointment. I'm not sure that the skin will ever "re-grow" enough to cover the stump; what will probably happen is the scar tissue will fill in to a certain extent, and just depending on the injury, the bone might remain. I still don't know why, but the stump on my bird eventually came off with his scabs, and beneath it was scar tissue.
Other people have already mentioned this, but I also recommend a vitamin/electrolyte boost to help her heal.
You came to the right place for advise, I hope we can make this another happy ending![]()
I think you will be very pleased with it.I ordered it off amazon. Thank you
Iodine has lost favor over the years. It might be good initially but it kills good tissue. I would recommend Bag Balm. It is soothing and has antimicrobial properties. If it will heal cows teats that have be torn up by barbed wire fencing it will heal most anything. Use it spareily a little goes a long way. I always have a can around.Thank you all for your support, advice and kind words!
When I first found her I sprayed hydrogen peroxide (once not knowing) on it. Brought her in and used iodine. I will keep using the iodine. I have some chick electrolytes that I'm using. Hopefully the stronger antibiotic will be here soon. Right now I'm giving her 1 ml of amoxicillin 400 mg 2x a day. I hope that's the right dosing.
I also order vetericyn spray and mealworms
