Does anyone know why mine has such a short mohawk?? She’s still wonderful but it confuses me a bit, their feathers are usually more showy atop their heads

How long did you have to wait to get them from Ideal?
So sorry!! Just saw this!! I’ve been off the site for a little while. Anyway, I didn’t have to wait at all or at least no later than any other chicks! Just picked a date from the list of available days and that was it really ❤️ And I still love mine btw!

I just ordered 30 Golden Brabanters from Ideal--ship date of 28 April, so some waiting for me. We just built / moved into a house, and still have some finish work to do. Planning the coop/run for late March or early April. They said at Ideal if one pays with a credit card, the card's not charged until the week before the order ships, so...it's all good. I ordered 20 females and 10 males, in hopes I can get a few good breeders out of them.

Looking everywhere, it seems the few who breed them breed the creams but not the goldens. Wondering why that is. But the golden color (really a dark orange or light red?) is my favorite.

· What made you decide to get this breed?
I waffled around trying to decide what breed or breeds to start with--a rainbow flock, or one breed?--for years. But I just kept coming back to this one. They make me so happy just seeing photos, I can only imagine how happy they'll make me in person.
· Do you own them for fun? Breeding? Some other purpose?
Breeding to preserve and improve, for eggs, for the joy of them.
· What are your favorite characteristics about this breed?
Since I won't really know until I've had them awhile, I'd have to say I love the manageable crest--not blinding like the Polish, but fun. Also, we're in the mountains and it gets a little chilly up here, so a winter-hardy breed is good. I don't care about egg color, but want a decent layer and non-aggressive roosters. Guess we'll see. :)
· Post some pics of your birds; male/female, chicks, eggs, etc!
Gotta get them first, but no worries there--once they're here, it'll be Photo City at the Conwell house.

Yes she is. I’m not very experienced on differentiating hatchery birds and other birds, so what does that entail?
It’s just that usually hatcheries don’t really breed for the SOP or follow breed standards so you can get birds with varying traits and quality. I have 4 of them and some of them barely have a crest and two of the others have huge ones but each one is different. One of them is even clean faced  it can happen with hatchery stock. But I love mine anyway. :love
