To make a super long story short, the heating light in my coop fell down, and set the coop on fire. We were able to get our freaked out chickens out and into the house. They all smell likie ashes, and my brahmas ( I have 2 of them) are CONSTANTLY making this humming/clucking sound... My "head hen" keeps on pacing and looking out the sliding glass window at our smoldering coop, like she's worried. My other cochin-mix is just quietly sitting there. Is there anything I can do to calm them down? The brahmas are very freaked out... I already threw snow all over the charred smoking spot to stop it.... Thanks!

Oh! I'm so sorry. Well, at least you got the chickens out.
The chickens should calm down with time.

Sorry again

I have no experience with this whatsoever, but I will try to offer some ideas....

If you have a small number of chickens, maybe you could put them in a box and perhaps cover it with a towel like a parakeet in a birdcage.

If you have a large number of them and they are tipplers, maybe you could spike their water.

If they have some kind of comfort object, like a blanket of teddy bear, maybe you could put it nearby.

If they are tired but uncomfortable, maybe you could provide a cozy place for them to snooze.

Good luck. Glad you saved the flock.

Thank you all so much! On the bright side, I'll get the new chicken coop I was hoping for this spring!!!!
