Should I give up on it?

That's a really long time. If it hasn't hatched by now, it isn't going to. What breed of chick is it? Where'd you get it? And why only one?

Someone gave me the egg so I don’t know any of that information and I only wanted one

If it were to hatch it would be really lonely though, chickens really need at least one other of their own species to socialize with, and 2 chickens is no harder than one.

Can you candle it again and post a few more pics? Probably not, but you never know
Here’s a bunch of pictures
I wish a had a 1/2 inch flashlight :/
I also want to state that I’ve never seen veins but I definitely saw changes in the egg as time passed. For example, the air cell got bigger, certain areas got darker, and Short lines going down showed up.

Someone is going to give me a chick so if it does hatch it’ll be okay

I am not sure what those short lines are, but you should have seen some veins starting at day 3. By this point the egg should be completely dark if it were going to hatch. Too me it looks like it never began developing or if it did, stopped very early. The air cell will get bigger on all eggs as they begin to dry up, regardless of whether the chick is developing or not.

Sorry, this egg is not going to hatch. I would open it up and see if it even started to develop.

Are you sure this egg came from a flock with a rooster? If not then for sure it wouldn't hatch because it wouldn't have been fertilized.

Yeah you’re probably right I’ll see if my parents will help me open it up

I’m not sure if it did but I thought it was fertilized from the looks of it since the ones that aren’t don’t have an air cell to begin with

An air cell is not an indication of fertility. It may have just been an older egg. The only way to tell if an egg is fertile without knowing if it came from a flock with a rooster, is to open it up and see if it has a blastoderm (this will look like a bullseye).

Just one chick? Chickens are flock animals, even 2 would be better than one. Make sure you have a brooder with a heat lamp and feeder + waterer. Good luck.

Oh wow at this point I just wanna give up I’ll just ask my mom’s friend for some chickens😔

It’s been 23 1/2 days so I’ll wait 2 more days
That’s might be a good idea, I hatched a chick a year ago he was a late one, but came out just like a normal chick
