Two year old Wyandotte, having trouble breathing. Started about 2 hours ago when she started making gasping sounds. We have confined her and checked for any visible blockage. Also stroked her crop. She is drinking a little - a few sips but immediately goes back to gasping/choking. She is free range and may have picked up something from the yard. Would like to know what else to do to help her.

Update
It appears that she has something caught in her throat. It has a plastic sound. We can not see far enough down to tell what it is but the bread with oil does seem to have helped. Maybe she was just hungry but the noise seems deeper and a little quieter. We will see how she is in the morning.

Update:
Oil and bread and rest seemed to do the trick. She is breathing normally this morning and out enjoying the day, as usual. Thank you!
(and the granddaughter thanks you!)

You might try an eyedropperful of vegetable oil or a bit of bread to help her pass it, in case she has swallowed something she is having trouble passing. If you give the oil along the side of her beak, she shouldn't inhale it.

All I can find do is antibiotic for respiratory infection. You may want to search for respiratory infection in the search and see what others have said to help treat their birds. We have not really had to treat our birds for this yet thankfully.
